Wait…What?

Where did this rumour originate? Well, it seems to come from a December episode of the I Need You Guys podcast, in which hosts Max Silvestri, Jenny Slate, Gabe Liedman, and guest Kumail Nanjiani discussed an unnamed Hollywood actor allegedly dating an AI chatbot.

“There’s a well-known actor who is currently in a romantic relationship with his AI chatbot,” Silvestri said. “And [he] brings the chatbot with him places and talks to the chatbot. I think on the phone or computer or whatever.“

Nanjiani asked how well-known the actor was, and Silvestri responded, “Very. As near A-list as TV can get you. This person’s also done films.“

“Is he self-aware about how f***ing weird it is, or he thinks it’s okay?” Nanjiani asked.

“From my understanding, the little bit I’ve heard, is that there is a self-awareness, but in kind of like a, ‘Yeah, sorry you’re not on board with the future’ [way],” Silvestri said.

Although the person’s name wasn’t given on the podcast, Silvestri texted it to those in the room. Slate said, “We can’t put this on our podcast. It’s not nice.“

What Does Zach Braff Say About the AI Rumour?

Despite no name being named, the internet decided it was Zach Braff, but the Scrubs actor had naturally denied the AI romance.

“I’m not dating a chatbot,” Braff wrote on his Instagram Stories. “I can’t believe I have to type these words. It is a storyline in an upcoming ep of Scrubs. Maybe it came from that? Not sure. But not me. Love, The guy not dating his chatbot. Please update all gossip sites.“

Braff can currently be seen starring in the Scrubs revival, which our own Alex Maidy absolutely loved. “Some other recent revivals have felt wooden, and the jokes missed more often than they hit, but Scrubs is a perfect example of revisiting a classic series and doing it right,” he wrote. “I love that this show is back and hope that it sticks around for another decade.” You can check out the rest of his review right here. While Quentin Tarantino fans eagerly anticipate his much-hyped final film, his career takes a bit of a side road to the stage world. Tarantino’s next project will be a play, adding that it could open next fall in the West End. The Daily Mail said that the director has been negotiating with some “big Hollywood stars” to appear in the play, but Variety has heard it “could be an ensemble comprised of rising and well-known actors.“ It was recently said to be an “old-fashioned British farce, in the door-slamming, trouser-dropping, mistaken identity vein of Brian Rix or Ray Cooney.” Something like Michael Frayn’s Noises Off. Tarantino dabbled in a similar type of zany comedy in 1995 as one of four directors of the Tim Roth movie, Four Rooms.

The Title and Premiere

Variety now reports that Tarantino’s play will sport the title, The Popinjay Cavalier. It’s being described as a “swashbuckling comedy” and is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment. The Popinjay Cavalier is set in 1830s Europe and the press release calls it “a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen.” Tarantino has been planning to premiere it in London on the West End. The official premiere date is yet to be announced, but it is being developed for an early 2027 debut.

“Oh, the play is all written. It is absolutely the next thing I’m going to do,” he said last year. “It’s absolutely my next project. And we’ll start doing it. We’ll start the ball rolling on it in January. Because I just figure it’s like the first of the year.“

The director added, “I just, you know, it’s probably going to take up a year and a half to two years of my life, all right? Because if it’s a success and I got to do the tour version of it and you know, all that kind of… I’m preparing for it to be a success. If it’s a flop, then I’ll be done very quickly. But even starting from scratch, it’ll probably be a year before it’s in front of an audience. So rather than dick around and everything, I was like, no, no, okay, I’m having a great time with my kids and with my family and everything.“

The son of actress Rochelle Natalie “Rocky” Parker, Corey Parker was born in New York City on July 8, 1965. His IMDb bio states that he grew up in and around the theater, began working as an actor at age 5, and started training with teachers from the Actors Studio at the age of 14. He graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan.

He landed his first on-screen role, an uncredited appearance as a bully in an episode of As the World Turns, in 1983. A role in the awesome 1984 thriller Scream for Help, directed by Michael Winner and scripted by Tom Holland, quickly followed. Then came an episode of The New Leave It to Beaver and Friday the 13th: A New Beginning.

Between 1985 and 2017, Parker landed roles on multiple TV shows and TV movies: The Best Times, Courage, a few Afterschool Specials, At Mother’s Request, The Bronx Zoo, CBS Summer Playhouse, I’m Dangerous Tonight (directed by Tobe Hooper), Thirtysomething, Eddie Dodd, Big Deals, Broadway Bound, Flying Blind, Duckman, Blue Skies, Grandpa’s Funeral, Liz: The Elizabeth Taylor Story, A Mother’s Prayer, Mr. and Mrs. Loving, Encino Woman, Touched by an Angel, Breast Men, Nashville, and Sun Records. His longest TV run came on Love Boat: The Next Wave, where he appeared on 25 episodes, but he may be best known for playing the character Josh on 5 episodes of Will & Grace.

On the film side of things, he worked on 9 1/2 Weeks, Willy/Milly, Biloxi Blues, Big Man on Campus, How I Got Into College, White Palace, The Lost Language of Cranes, Flesh Suitcase, The Rainmaker, Fool’s Paradise, One Came Home, Woman’s Picture, and Being Awesome.

Parker was married to actress Linda Kerridge from 1989 to 1992, and they had one child together. He had been married to Angela Denise Douglas since 1995, and they also had a child together. In recent years, he had been working as an acting coach, including being behind the scenes on the Marvel / Disney+ series Ms. Marvel.

Runyon was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 1, 1960, the daughter of radio DJ Jim Runyon and actress Jane Roberts. She followed her mother into an acting career, making her screen debut in the 1980 Christmas slasher To All a Goodnight (which was directed by David Hess of The Last House on the Left). From there, she landed a job on the soap opera Another World, appearing on 111 episodes as a character named Sally Frame.

She did a lot of TV work through the ’80s and ’90s, appearing on episodes of Boone, The Fall Guy, The Master; Magnum, P.I.; The Highwayman, Charles in Charge, Who’s the Boss?, Dear John, Valerie, Quantum Leap, Booker; Murder, She Wrote; Beverly Hills, 90210; and Vinnie & Bobby, plus the miniseries Space and the TV movies Six Pack, Pros & Cons, Dreams of Gold: The Mel Fisher Story, Blue de Ville, Tagteam, and Till Death Do Us Part.

The most popular TV movie she ever worked on was 1988’s A Very Brady Christmas, where Runyon replaced Susan Olsen from the original sitcom as Cindy Brady after Olsen dropped out due to a contract dispute (and because the filming schedule conflicted with her honeymoon plans). A Very Brady Christmas was a major TV event that year and the second highest rated television film of the season. 37+ years later, I still remember sitting down to watch that premiere airing with my family. Last December, A Very Brady Christmas was shown on MeTV’s House of Svengoolie, and Runyon was interviewed in that episode.

In addition to To All a Goodnight, Ghostbusters, and The In Crowd, Runyon’s film career included Up the Creek, The Falcon and the Snowman, Flight of the Spruce Goose, 18 Again!, A Man Called Sarge, and Killing Streets. After marrying Todd Corman, the nephew of legendary producer Roger Corman, in 1991, Runyon largely stepped away from acting, working as a teacher and focusing on their children: son, Wyatt, and daughter, Bayley. They have both worked in the entertainment industry, as Wyatt was a production assistant on the 2013 Corman production Piranhaconda and Bayley is an actress with over 20 credits to her name.

If you grew up on the ’80s like I did, chances are that Jennifer Runyon spent a good amount of time on your TV screen.

After appearing in the 1993 Corman horror film Carnosaur, Runyon didn’t act again until 2015. In the last decade, she has worked on Silent Night, Bloody Night 2: Revival; Bloodsucka Jones vs. the Creeping Death, Terror Tales, Gunfight at Silver Creek, and Spectral Squad: The Haunting of Sophie Lawson. She also had her own cooking podcast.

Runyon still seemed to be in great health and spirits in December, but it’s being reported that she was diagnosed with cancer quite recently and her fight with the disease was very brief. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and fans.

The legendary Bruce Campbell is hoping to go on tour with his movie Ernie & Emma this fall and I’m hoping he’ll be considered for the lead role in the film adaptation of Grady Hendrix’s novella BadAsstronauts – but before we get to either of those things, Campbell has revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer and will be undergoing treatment.

Career

Campbell has more than forty years of credits to his name, including roles in Burn Notice, Bubba Ho-Tep, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (and almost every other movie Raimi has made), Maniac Cop, Escape from L.A., The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, My Name Is Bruce, Man with the Screaming Brain, The X-Files, and a whole lot more.

He’s best known for his work in the Evil Dead franchise. Not only does he hold the rights to that property with Sam Raimi and producer Rob Tapert, but he also starred in the original film trilogy and a three-season TV series as the chainsaw-wielding hero Ash Williams.

Announcement

Campbell took to social media to inform fans of his cancer diagnosis, writing: “Hi, folks. These days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an “opportunity,” so let’s go with that – I’m having one of those. It’s also called a type of cancer that’s “treatable” not “curable.” I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too.

The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change – appearances and cons and work in general need to take back seat to treatment.

My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie Ernie & Emma this fall.

There are several cons this year summer that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.

That’s about it. I’m not trying to enlist sympathy – or advice – I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).
Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while.

Ernie & Emma

Written and directed by Campbell, Ernie & Emma has the following synopsis: Widowed pear salesman Ernie Tyler travels to scatter his wife’s ashes in places she specified, each location stirring memories that help him process their marriage, his work life, and his future. Campbell also stars in the movie as Ernie.

Campbell said the project was born out of “a desire to see if I could make a ‘one character’ movie. Eventually, with influences of my dad as a Detroit ad guy and the place where I currently live, Ernie was born.” He added that Ernie and Emma “were married for a long time, so there was lots of history, baggage and unresolved issues. The journey comes with many revelations, good and bad.” The film deals with death “directly. Emma is a lead character of the movie. It was nice to do an ‘age appropriate’ role.“

Just a few days ago, Campbell sat down for an interview with The Oregonian and said, “I’m about ready to start telling adult stories. I’m not really interested in teeny bop anymore. It just doesn’t appeal to me. I can’t relate to it. I think about dying. I think about death. I never really did before.” He’s thinking about it, but he has no intention of experiencing it himself any time soon.

It is a shock to hear that our hero Bruce Campbell has cancer, but it’s good to know that it’s treatable and there’s hope that he’ll be feeling well enough to go on tour with Ernie & Emma later this year. We’re all rooting for him, and hope he’ll be able to kick the ass of this bastard disease just like Ash kicked the asses of so many Deadites over the years. Fuck cancer!

It all started on February 26th, when Carrey attended the the César Awards in Paris, where he received this year’s honorary award and gave an emotional speech, delivered entirely in French. He did so with a thick accent, but he pulled it off. He explained that, a few hundred years ago, his many-greats-grandfather Marc-François Carré was born in France and emigrated to Canada, where Carrey was born in 1962. He thanked his daughter Jane, grandson Jackson, and girlfriend Mina, all of whom attended the event with him. And he thanked “the funniest man I have ever known: my father. Percy Joseph Carrey, who taught me the value of love, generosity, and laughter.”

It was heartwarming. The problem was, Carrey didn’t look quite how some people online expected him to – and within the next 24 hours, discussion of his looks had gone viral, with people claiming whoever that person was at the ceremony didn’t look, sound, or behave like Jim Carrey. They even thought his eyes looked different than they should. Drag artist Alexis Stone took the clone conspiracy theory even further on Instagram, suggesting he had impersonated Carrey at the event and sharing images of prosthetics and a wig that resembled Carrey’s February 26 appearance.

Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the César Awards talked to Variety in an attempt to stop the rumors. Caulier called the clone theory a “non-issue,” but Carrey’s appearance at the event was a historic moment. “Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words. He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again. For me, it’s a non-issue. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.“

Variety has passed along the seventeen nominees for this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Despite being the “Rock & Roll” Hall of Fame, the organization more so encompasses all popular musical acts. The nominees for 2026 have the widest variety of artists that have ever been assembled — from Jeff Buckley to the Wu-Tang Clan. Additionally, it had recently made the news that Wu-Tang Clan co-founder, Oliver “Power” Grant, had passed away at 52. Grant was the manager for the rap group and was instrumental in their business blueprints. Grant would invest in the group alongside Mitchell “Divine” Diggs, as they became one of the more significant acts in the rap game.

Meanwhile, Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis and Sade have previously been featured on past ballots in an effort to be elected into the Hall of Fame.

Black Crowes, Carey, Idol, Joy Division/New Order and Oasis are being nominated for an immediate repeat since last year. However, Carey, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order and Oasis have been on past ballots for a total of three times. Black Crowes, Idol and Sade have all been nominated once before.

Pink is the only artist on the list who is being nominated for her first year. She had made a splash on the music scene in the R&B genre back in 2000 with her album, Can’t Take Me Home. Eventually in her career, she would emigrate over to a more rock sound, but she would remain a pop artist with multiple hits on the Top 40 charts.

Career

The son of actress / artist Sonia Sorel and legendary character actor John Carradine, Robert Carradine was born on March 24, 1954 – and, like his brother Keith and their half-brother David, he also got into acting. After making his TV debut in a 1971 episode of Bonanza, he landed his first film role in 1972’s The Cowboys, where he got to share the screen with John Wayne. He reprised his role from that film in a The Cowboys TV series, which only lasted twelve episodes.

For more than fifty years, he remain steadily employed, racking up 150 screen acting credits. Projects include Aloha Bobby and Rose, The Pom Pom Girls, Massacre at Central High, Orca, Joyride, Coming Home, The Big Red One, Heartaches, Tag: The Assassination Game, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Twilight Zone, Faerie Tale Theatre, The Magical World of Disney, Number One with a Bullet, Conspiracy: The Trial of the Chicago 8, I Saw What You Did, The Player, The Tommyknockers, ER, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Humanoids from the Deep, NYPD Blue, The Practice, The Kid with X-ray Eyes, Nash Bridges, Monte Walsh, Timecop: The Berlin Decision, Tooth and Nail, Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt, Django Unchained, Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda; Mommy, I Didn’t Do It; The Night They Came Home, and more. As mentioned, Carradine is best known for starring as Lewis Skolnick in the Revenge of the Nerds franchise – although some may know him as Sam McGuire from Disney’s Lizzie McGuire, and with his Revenge of the Nerds co-star Curtis Armstrong he also hosted a competition show I really enjoyed, King of the Nerds. In recent months, fans have had the opportunity to see him every week in episodes of the Party Nerds Pop-Cast, which he co-hosted with his friend Richard Gabai.

Gabai took to social media to say, “Very blessed to have had Bobby in my life. The best friend anyone could have. THE BEST. I will love him forever. May his memory be a blessing.“

Family Statement

Carradine’s family provided Deadline with the following statement: “It is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away. In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon on light to everyone around him. We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness. At this time we ask for the privacy to grieve this unfathomable loss. With gratitude for your understanding and compassion.“

Keith Carradine added that the family wanted the public to know about Robert’s valiant struggle with Bipolar Disorder. “We want people to know it, and there is no shame in it. It is an illness that got the best of him, and I want to celebrate him for his struggle with it, and celebrate his beautiful soul. He was profoundly gifted, and we will miss him every day. We will take solace in how funny he could be, how wise and utterly accepting and tolerant he was. That’s who my baby brother was.“

Deadline notes, “Robert Carradine is survived by his children, grandchildren, brothers, nieces, nephews and anyone who had the honor of having him in their life. His family asks for privacy at this time.”

This news hits me hard because not only have I been a fan of Robert Carradine my entire life (some of my earliest memories involve watching the first two Revenge of the Nerds movies with family members), but I’ve also been having fun seeing him on the Party Nerds Pop-Cast every week. An episode where Carradine sat alongside Clint Howard and joked about the two starring in a comedy like Grumpy Old Men even got me daydreaming about what such a movie could be like… but, sadly, it wasn’t to be.

This is a devastating loss. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Robert Carradine’s family, friends, and fans.

Amid finding out that news had broken of Nancy’s death, Short and his kids were heading out of town. This is where Kurt Russell enters the picture. As Short recounted in his memoir, I Must Say: My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend, “Fortunately, the kids and I had scheduled a trip the next morning to our Canadian refuge in Snug Harbour. We’d already had Nancy’s body cremated so that we could spread the ashes up there. We flew from L.A. to Toronto, and then, from Toronto, took a seaplane that touched down right by our dock.

“What the kids and I witnessed as the plane floated into the harbor brought tears: all of my siblings, their spouses, and my beloved nephews and nieces lined up on the dock. And flowers everywhere. Kurt Russell, I later found out, had gone to the florist in the next town and bought out the whole store. Then he went to an antiques store and bought flowerpots. Goldie [Hawn] offered to help, but he told her, “It’s okay, honey, I gotta do this myself.” He planted all the flowers in the pots and lined the dock and the pathways leading up to the main house with them.”

That’s some true friendship right there, a prime example of not just the sort of impact Martin Short has had on people but also how great of a guy Kurt Russell is.

While Captain Ron would flop with audiences and critics upon release in 1992, it has gone on to find a bit of a following courtesy of home video and TV airings. It might not have the sort of fanbase that Clifford does, but Captain Ron absolutely has its moments.

Carano started her fighting career in 2005, in the sport of Muay Thai. After achieving a record of 12–1–1, she participated in the first-ever sanctioned female MMA bout in 2006. Over the next few years, she won 7 MMA fights – but the first loss of her career came in a fight against Cris Cyborg in August 2009. That also ended up being her last MMA fight. Although there were the occasional rumblings that she would return to the sport, and a fight between her and Ronda Rousey was once planned for December 2014, she never got back into the fighting. Until now.

Rousey started out in judo, and is recognized as being the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the sport (at the 2008 Summer Olympics). She moved into MMA in 2010 and won 15 of her 17 fights. Her last fight was on on December 30, 2016.

Carano vs. Rousey

The Carano vs. Rousey fight will take place on Saturday, May 16. So, by the time they step into the ring, Carano will be almost seventeen years removed from her last fight, and Rousey about nine and a half years removed from hers. The Hollywood Reporter lets us know that the match will stream live on Netflix from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, and the rest of the card will be announced at a later date.

The fight will take place inside a hexagon, not an octagon like the UFC. Not only is this Netflix’s first-ever mixed martial arts event, it’s also the first MMA event for Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), Jake Paul’s company.

“Rousey and Carano will face off as featherweights (145 pounds). It will be professionally sanctioned under the Unified Rules of MMA and contested over five, five-minute rounds using four-ounce gloves.”

Rousey had this to say about the event: “Been waiting so long to announce this: Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women’s combat sport history! And we’re partnering with the fighter-first promotion MVP as well as the biggest and baddest streamer on the planet Netflix. This is for all MMA fans past, present and future. More to come… much more.“

Carano added, “Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for and it has been her dream to make this fight happen between us. She thanked me for opening up doors for her in her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen. This is an honor. I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome. This is as much for Ronda and me as it is for the fans and mixed martial arts community. What a time to be alive.“

This week saw a generation of 90s kids get rocked by the news of James Van Der Beek losing his battle to cancer. The actor was only 48. Van Der Beek became a breakout star on the teen drama Dawson’s Creek when it premiered on the WB network. Dawson’s Creek ran for six seasons and would also make stars out of Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson. Van Der Beek also went on to star in the popular high school football drama Varsity Blues as well as the film adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis book, The Rules of Attraction, where he portrayed Sean Bateman, the brother of Patrick Bateman. Van Der Beek’s career spanned many projects and his fans have been paying tribute since the tragic news.

GoFundMe Goal

It had been reported that during his battle with cancer, Van Der Beek started auctioning off memorabilia from his career to help pay for his medical bills. A GoFundMe was launched on Wednesday to help his family pay for the treatments. Deadline reports that the $1.5 million goal has already been surpassed. Donations would come from fans, but also Hollywood figures, such as Steven Spielberg (who was Dawson’s hero), Kate Capshaw, Jon M. Chu and talent agent Kevin Huvane.

The message on the GoFundMe page read, “In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future. The costs of James’ medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds. They are working hard to stay in their home and to ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time. The support of friends, family, and the wider community will make a world of difference as they navigate the road ahead.”

The page explains that the funds are to help cover “essential living expenses, pay bills, and support the children’s education.”

Last year, Michelle Williams had also organized a special Dawson’s Creek reunion table read event to raise money for the F Cancer Foundation. Van Der Beek wasn’t able to attend due to a separate health issue, but the star left a message for the fans.

Paramount wants everyone to love being a turtle

So, what does the new Paramount have planned for the Fab Four? To begin, a 30-episode CG-animated series exploring the early days of Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo, and Raphael, titled Teeny Mutant Ninja Turtles, is on the way. Akin to the Disney+ hit series Spidey and his Amazing Friends, the new series – meant for young children – will air on YouTube, with each episode being roughly four minutes long.

TMNT books are coming to retailers later this year

On the book front, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splinter’s Dojo, published by Scholastic, will hit shelves, alongside The Last Ronin, hailing from Abrams. Splinter’s Dojo is a Diary of a Wimpy Kid-like page-turner, featuring a story told through a mix of comics panels, artifacts, and text from Dan Abdo and Jason Patterson. Splinter’s Dojo is available at book retailers on September 1st.

Meanwhile, the mature, fan-favorite Turtles tale, Last Ronin, is getting a prose adaptation, based on the celebrated IDW graphic novel by Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, with art by Esau and Isaac Escorza, Ben Bishop, and Eastman. Sadly, the big-screen adaptation of the story got shelved, but are we surprised? Not in the least. I never believed that movie would see the light of day for a second. Have you read it? It’s dark, twisted, and most of the turtles are dead. Yeah. I don’t know who greenlit an R-rated Turtles movie, but I’m not shocked it got scrapped. The Turtles’ property is too precious for a film about a lone survivor turtle avenging his fallen family. Expect the prose version of Last Ronin on bookstore shelves on June 2nd.

Elsewhere, Mattel plans to unleash an army of toys based on two upcoming film projects, the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2 for 2027, and the new untitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action/CG animation hybrid in 2028.

TMNT returns to the restaurant game

Finally, Paramount wants to open Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle-themed pizzerias in three locations, including Santa Monica, CA; Monterrey, Mexico; and Sao Paulo, Brazil, later this year. Man, remember when the Turtles would shill for Pizza Hut? Those were the days! We don’t know much about the Turtles restaurant initiative, but if they don’t present the tables as sewer covers, why bother? Get at me, Paramount! I’ve got ideas!

3 Doors Down reports on Arnold’s passing

“With heavy hearts, we share the news that Brad Arnold, founder, lead singer, and songwriter of 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday, February 7th, at the age of 47,” the band wrote in a statement on Instagram. “With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer.

“As a founding member, vocalist, and original drummer of 3 Doors Down, Brad helped redefine mainstream rock music, blending post-grunge accessibility with emotionally direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners. Brad’s songwriting became a cultural touchstone for a generation, producing some of the most enduring hits of the 2000s, including the band’s breakout hit, ‘Kryptonite,’ which he wrote in his math class when he was just 15 years old. His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on.

“Above all, he was a devoted husband to Jennifer, and his kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him,” they wrote. “Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith, and deep love for his family and friends.”

In May of last year, Arnold remained fearless after being diagnosed with stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma. In a video to fans, Arnold thanked fans for their unwavering support, asking only for well-wishes and prayers on his behalf.

“I’ve got some not-so-good news for you today,” Arnold said in the video. “I’ve been sick a couple weeks ago, and I went to the hospital and got checked out, and had actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal cell carcinoma, and it had metastasized into my lung. And it’s stage 4, and that’s not real good.”

My heart goes out to Arnold’s family, friends, and fans. As I sit here, marveling in Arnold’s strength and reserve, I can’t imagine the fortitude required to soldier on like he did. I’ve been close to death on numerous occasions, but never like this. Knowing that Arnold left this mortal coil with his head held high makes me glad to know he was loved by so many and remained in the best of company until his untimely end. While the news is still fresh, it’s comforting to know fans can enjoy his music and light beyond his passing. I don’t think I’ve heard much from 3 Doors Down beyond “Kryptonite” on the radio, but it’s never too late to explore the band’s catalog. Stay safe out there, friends. Make your appointments. If something feels “off,” and you’re able, please have a doctor check it out. You never know.

With a win at the 2026 Grammy Awards, Steven Spielberg has officially achieved EGOT status, becoming the 28th person to do so. Spielberg won Best Music Film as a producer on Music by John Williams, marking his long-awaited Grammy victory and completing the quartet of major awards. Spielberg joins the likes of Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, Mike Nichols, Audrey Hepburn, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Richard Rodgers and Elton John. Ludwig Göransson also became a big winner last night with his soundtrack for Sinners. Songs from Wicked, Kpop Demon Hunters and F1 would also win for their film-related entries. Nine Inch Nails’ return with their music from the Tron: Ares soundtrack would also be celebrated with a win.

Dano on Tarantino

At a 20th-anniversary screening of Little Miss Sunshine at the Sundance Film Festival, Dano was finally asked about the many people who came out to support him in the wake of Tarantino’s comment. “That was really nice,” Dano told Variety. “I was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn’t have to.“

Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris also chimed in, with Faris noting, “You know what was interesting was the people coming out to defend Paul. There was immediately… he is loved by so many. He is so smart.“

What Tarantino Said About Dano

Tarantino was speaking on Brett Easton Ellis’ podcast to discuss his ranking of the best movies of the 21st century. When it came to Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, the director noted that it would have appeared higher on the list if not for Dano’s performance.

“Obviously, it’s supposed to be a two-hander. But it’s also drastically obvious that it’s not a two-hander,” Tarantino explained. “[Dano] is weak sauce, man. He is the weak sister. [Daniel] is eating him [alive]. Austin Butler would have been wonderful in that role. He’s just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy. Daniel Day-Lewis shows that he doesn’t need a strong foil. The movie needs it. He doesn’t need anything. It’s supposed to be a two-hander and it’s not! … you put him with the the weakest f***ing actor in SAG? The limpest dick in the world?“

Tarantino also mentioned Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard in the same interview, saying he didn’t care for either as actors.

Look, we all have actors we’re not into, but Tarantino’s comments felt way harsher than they needed to be. Yeah, that’s his whole thing—the guy doesn’t filter himself—but the massive outpouring of support for Dano probably made him rethink that take.

Sweeney Covered the Hollywood Sign in Bras

TMZ obtained video of Sweeney scaling one of the massive letters on the Hollywood Sign while holding a string of bras, all as a production crew filmed the spectacle. According to the outlet, Sweeney’s team did secure a permit to film at the Hollywood Sign, but that permit reportedly did not allow for touching or climbing the structure. As a result, the stunt could potentially land her in legal trouble, as it may constitute criminal trespass and/or vandalism.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which owns the Hollywood Sign, told TMZ, “There was no permission granted to do this as is required.” As for whether they will file a police report, they said, “We are still investigating how and under what authority (if any) the Sweeney production accessed the site of the Sign.” No matter what happens, I would imagine that all publicity is good publicity for Sweeney’s lingerie venture.

Sweeney’s Box Office Failures & Upcoming Projects

Sweeney has had a string of box-office failures, including Madame Web, Eden, and Christy, but she bounced back in a big way with The Housemaid, a thriller directed by Paul Feig and based on the novel by Freida McFadden. The film grossed $247 million worldwide against a $35 million budget, so naturally, a sequel is already in the works.

It was recently announced that she’s set to star in Custom of the Country, an adaptation of Edith Wharton’s classic 1913 novel of the same name. She will play Undine Spragg, an ambitious Midwestern young woman who attempts to ascend the social ladder through ruthlessness, seduction, vanity, and manipulation in early 20th-century New York City society. In addition to starring in the film, Sweeney will also produce alongside Charles Finch for Rabbit’s Foot Films and Alison Owen for Monumental Pictures. Josie Rourke (Mary Queen of Scots) will direct Custom of the Country and write the adaptation.

Sweeney is also set to return for the long-awaited third season of Euphoria, which will debut on HBO on April 12.

Kyle Gass and Jack Black Are All Good

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Gass reflected on the events and the status of his relationship with Black. “Jack and I are all good. At the end of the day, we’re friends,” he said. “I’ve known Jack since he was 18, and it’s been such a long marriage, really. You go up and down, and we’ve always taken long breaks. He’s had a lot of stuff to do, and I’ve got my other projects. So it doesn’t even feel that different now.”

Gass added, “We hashed it out. And it was hard. It is like a marriage. You go through these ups and downs, and try to understand your partner. We will serve no D-wine before it’s D-time — but we will be back. We will return… We’re gonna come back — it’s gonna be bigger than Oasis!“

Did Black Throw Gass Under the Bus?

After the unfortunate comment, Black issued a statement that appeared to distance himself from his friend. “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday,” he said. “I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold.“

Some criticized Black for what they viewed as throwing his friend under the bus, but Gass understands that Black “was doing what he felt he had to do. We’re separate people, always, and we’re on different career paths. I totally understood what he needed to protect. I didn’t begrudge him any of that.“

Technically, Tenacious D has already reunited, just not on a grand scale. They contributed a cover of REO Speedwagon’s “Keep On Loving You” for the compilation album Good Music To Lift Los Angeles, and also released a concert DVD, The Complete Master Works 3.

In the letter, dated January 1, 2026, Adams assures everyone he’s still of sound mind and that he’s converting to Christianity due to the “risk-reward” calculation. Before passing away, Adams entered hospice earlier this month, where he was receiving end-of-life care for his rapidly declining condition. Helping Adams in his final days alongside nurses and medical staff members were Shelly, her daughter, and her sister. In the end, Adams lost his battle with prostate cancer. Before his passing, Adams recorded a podcast episode, saying it could be his final one before the end.

Adams on his diagnosis and preparing for the worst

Earlier this month, Adams updated fans about his declining health on Real Coffee with Scott Adams, saying, “I talked to my radiologist yesterday, and it’s all bad news — the odds of me recovering are essentially zero,” Adams said. “I’ll give you any updates if that changes, but it won’t.”

“So there’s no chance that I’ll get my feeling back in my legs, and I’ve got some ongoing heart failure, which is making it difficult to breathe sometimes during the day,” the cartoonist continued. “However, you should prepare yourself that January will probably be a month of transition, one way or another.”

Where did Dilbert get its start?

In the late 1980s, while working at the Pacific Bell Telephone Company, Adams, in a partnership with United Media, launched the Dilbert comic strip. After hundreds of publications picked up the strip, Adams went into the Dilbert business full-time. Dilbert readers appreciated the character’s sardonic nature and identified with the plights of his workaday lifestyle, particularly those familiar with cubicle environments. In 1999, an animated Dilbert TV series premiered, featuring Daniel Stern as Dilbert, Chris Elliott as Dogbert, and Larry Miller as Dilbert’s Pointy-Haired Boss. The series lasted for 30 episodes before being canceled.

In 2023, the Dilbert comic strip fell out of grace with many newspapers after unfortunate comments made by Adams marred the strip’s image.

Weir’s family remembers his legacy and spirit

“Bobby will forever be a guiding force whose unique artistry reshaped American music. His work did more than fill rooms with music; it was warm sunlight that filled the soul, building a community, a language and a feeling of family that generations of fans carry with them. Every chord he played, every word he sang was an integral part of the stories he wove. There was an invitation: to feel, to question, to wander, and to belong,” Weir’s family wrote.

To say Weir was a soldier of song would be an understatement. After the sudden passing of his Grateful Dead bandmate Jerry Garcia in 1995, Weir carried the torch by leading multiple bands that continued to spread good vibes throughout the community, including Dead & Company, Phil Lesh and Friends, Further, RatDog, and Wolf Bros.

Memories of the Dead

The Grateful Dead has been a part of my life for as long as I can recall. My good friend’s mother, Laurie, was obsessed with the band. She would play their music constantly, from an old Sony radio she kept sitting on the windowsill above her kitchen sink. If I close my eyes, I can still see her dancing to songs like “Sugar Magnolia,” “Friend of the Devil,” “Casey Jones,” and “Touch of Grey.”

When I would go to work with my mom, the Grateful Dead were there. She would clean houses before becoming a personal trainer, and one of her clients was enphatuated with the Dead. I would play Metroid on the NES while sitting beneath a tie-dye Grateful Dead tapestry, a skeleton with bright red hair smiling down at me while I solved environmental puzzles with Samus Aran. Finally, I recall the show Freaks and Geeks introducing me to the Grateful Dead’s “American Beauty” album, which I’m listening to as I write this article.

Rest well, Mr. Weir. You will be missed.

Shows that made MTV the place to be

While MTV as a brand isn’t going anywhere, the reason we fell in love with the channel is disappearing from the airwaves. Before platforms like YouTube and Vimeo shared music videos with millions of daily users, MTV was the place to be to see the latest visual spectacles from your favorite musical artists. In addition to airing must-see TV like 120 Minutes, Headbanger’s Ball, Yo! MTV Raps, Alternative Nation, Amp, and more, MTV kept you entertained into the wee hours of the morning with Liquid Television, Aeon Flux, The Head, The Maxx, and Cartoon Sushi.

Don’t even get me started on MTV News. Back in my day, when you heard that theme by Beanie Sigel, or the stinger cut from the Stone Temple Pilots song “Lounge Fly,” you dropped everything to pay attention. I can still recall the afternoon when MTV’s Kurt Loder broke the news about Kurt Cobain’s tragic death. For a grunge-obsessed “freak” like me, the world stopped that day. Cobain’s passing was one of my first confrontations with a celebrity death that hit close to home. Cobain and John Candy, really.

Which MTV channels are going dark?

In the U.K. and across parts of Europe, channels such as MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live are being removed from Sky and Virgin Media lineups. In the U.S., remaining regional cable feeds that still carried music-only MTV programming will go dark as distribution contracts expire.

Which channels are disappearing? According to reports, the five channels slated for closure are MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live. All five channels will close by December 31, 2025.

Why can’t we have nice things?

Why are the channels shutting down? There are lots of reasons for the MTV channels going dark, but essentially, it’s due to a decline in audience engagement and a shift in viewing habits. Other reasons include cost-cutting measures and restructuring at Paramount Global, as well as a change in focus from linear channels to digital and streaming platforms.

Say it ain’t so, MTV! Let’s negotiate a deal for a 24/7 MTV Unplugged channel! Imagine it. Non-stop broadcasts of Unplugged performances by Nirvana, Alice in Chains, The Cure, Stone Temple Pilots, Bjork, Hole, The Cranberries, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Korn, Placebo, and everyone in between! I don’t ask for much. At least give me this!

Zampella Helped Create the Call of Duty Franchise

Zampella was a lead designer on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, but he founded video game developer Infinity Ward with Grant Collier and Jason West to develop a new game described as a Medal of Honor Killer. That game was Call of Duty, a first-person shooter set during World War II, which allowed players to take control of soldiers in the American, British, and Soviet campaigns. With fast-paced combat and an emphasis on squad-based play, the game was an enormous success.

Under Zampella’s leadership, Infinity Ward released Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Zampella and Ward were later fired by Activision, Infinity Ward’s parent company, but they successfully sued for wrongful termination and received a settlement. The pair then founded Respawn Entertainment, which went on to develop games such as Titanfall, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. In 2021, Electronic Arts put Zampella in charge of the Battlefield franchise.

Call of Duty Has Become One of the Biggest Video Game Franchises of All Time

With nearly two dozen installments, Call of Duty has become one of the biggest video game franchises of all time, behind only Mario and Tetris. More than 500 million copies of Call of Duty games have been sold, generating over $30 billion.

A big-screen movie based on the franchise has been in development for many years, with the latest attempt currently underway at Paramount Pictures. Yellowstone‘s Taylor Sheridan is developing and producing the project, with Peter Berg on board to direct. Sheridan and Berg will also co-write the script.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Zampella’s family and friends. A true giant in the gaming industry gone too soon.

Mike Binder and Steven Spielberg Were Working Together Until Ben Affleck Got Involved

While appearing on Stephen Baldwin’s podcast One Bad Movie, filmmaker Mike Binder recalled crossing paths with Spielberg after the legendary director was impressed by The Upside of Anger. “He said, ‘We gotta do something together. I want you to write something for me,’” Binder explained. That collaboration ultimately gave rise to Man About Town, a comedy-drama about a powerful Hollywood agent whose seemingly perfect life begins to unravel.

Binder hoped Spielberg would direct the film. Although Spielberg later backed out of directing duties, he kept the project at DreamWorks, at least until Ben Affleck entered the picture.

After meeting with Affleck, Binder struck a deal for the actor to star in Man About Town. But when he called Spielberg with the news, the response was swift. “I call Steven, Steven says, ‘No. Can’t do it with him. We just bombed with a movie with him, he’s got that whole J-Lo thing going on now, and I have other problems with him,’” Binder said.

So… What Happened?

According to Binder, Spielberg traced his issues with Affleck back to a family vacation in the late ’90s, when Affleck was dating Gwyneth Paltrow, Spielberg’s goddaughter. “‘My son was a little boy, he was playing in the pool, and he got out of the pool, and Ben came in fully dressed, and my son pushed Ben into the pool,’” Binder recalled Spielberg telling him. “‘And Ben got really mad at him, and he came out of the pool and picked him up and threw him back into the pool, and made my son cry.’”

Binder continued, “He says, ‘I just don’t like to work with him. Plus his last two movies bombed. Find somebody else. Anyone but him. He’s cold as hell.’ I said, ‘Okay, Steven.’”

When Binder contacted Affleck’s agent, he quickly received a call from Affleck himself. “Ben calls me up, he says, ‘Did Steven Spielberg tell you I threw his kid in the water? Is that what happened? Is that why I’m not on your movie?’” Binder recalled. “I said, ‘No, he didn’t say—’ ‘Yes he did! He told you I threw his kid in the water. That’s why I’m not on the movie.’”

Despite everything, Binder ultimately decided he still wanted Affleck for the role. Spielberg didn’t push back, but DreamWorks dropped Man About Town the very next day. Binder took the project elsewhere, and the film was eventually released direct-to-DVD in 2006.

Binder Made Affleck Laugh About it Years Later

Years later, Binder found himself watching the 85th Academy Awards, where Affleck’s Argo beat Spielberg’s Lincoln for Best Picture. “He beats Spielberg, and he’s at the Academy Awards, and they’re hugging,” Binder said. “And I text him, I’m watching on the air, I go, ‘Ben, tonight you could throw Spielberg’s whole family in the pool and get away with it.’ About an hour later, the phone rings, it’s Affleck at the Academy [Awards]. He goes, ‘That made me laugh so f—in’ hard.’”

Looking back, Binder summed up the entire saga with some hard-earned perspective. “I love both these guys, and they’re both smarter than me, but they both kinda acted like idiots, and so did I,” he said. “They were great guys, but at the same time, assholes. They were like everybody else. Steven Spielberg is a genius and a great guy, but he can be an asshole. And Ben Affleck is a great guy, and he can be a bigger asshole. But by the same token, both of ’em can go, ‘Yeah, I can be an asshole.’”

Is this decade’s old pool incident still a point of contention between Spielberg and Affleck? I’m not sure, but the story certainly made me laugh.

There’s also London Town, which will offer immersive experiences, such as obstacle courses and training to become a vampire hunter. There will also be uniquely themed stores filled with exclusive Dracula Land merchandise.

Lastly, we’ve got the Port of New Orleans. Guests can explore festive attractions, dine on a riverboat, and venture into the enchanting bayou, all while taking in the French-inspired architecture and the lively energy of Mardi Gras. There will also be a coaster race with howling werewolves.

Dracula Land will also have a “metaverse” with its own cryptocurrency, called DraculaCoin.

The various videos on the Dracula Land site all appear to be AI-generated. They give everything a bit of a creepy vibe, as they are full of common AI mistakes, such as terrifying humans and gibberish signs. Makes it a little challenging to see the true vision for the project. I do love the Teeefhone booth.

When Will Dracula Land Open?

The theme park’s road map seems equally ambitious. Phase One apparently got underway in 2024, with “master planning” and “early creative development.” Phase Two, which spans 2025-2026, is when physical construction will occur, along with the beta launch of the digital platform. Phase Three is the launch period, spanning 2026-2027, marked by the grand opening, media expansion, and franchise development. So…if all goes as planned, the park could see its first visitors as early as next year.

Her announcement read, “Early this morning Gil – my soulmate – lost his fight with a rare and viciously aggressive form of cancer,” wrote his wife. “From the moment when we knew something was wrong to his death this morning was only days. No matter how many years I got to spend with him it would have ever been enough. Hold the ones you have tightly and love them fiercely.”

She would also recently post a message on the official Gil Gerard Facebook page that her husband left for his fans. Her post included some wholesome, happy pictures of Gerard from recent times and the text would read, “This is Janet Gerard, Gil’s wife. Just to clarify – I was by his side when my husband passed away this morning in hospice care. Below is the message he left:

If you are reading this, then Janet has posted it as I asked her to.

My life has been an amazing journey. The opportunities I’ve had, the people I’ve met and the love I have given and received have made my 82 years on the planet deeply satisfying.

My journey has taken me from Arkansas to New York to Los Angeles, and finally, to my home in North Georgia with my amazing wife, Janet, of 18 years. It’s been a great ride, but inevitably one that comes to a close as mine has.

Don’t waste your time on anything that doesn’t thrill you or bring you love. See you out somewhere in the cosmos.”

Before Buck Rogers, Gerard played Dr. Alan Stewart on more than 300 episodes of NBC’s The Doctors. After his role in Buck Rogers, Gerard’s career would thrive on television and independent films. He would star as Dr. John Harding in CBS’ short-lived series E.A.R.T.H. Force back in 1990, as well as having a six-episode arc on Days of Our Lives in 1997. He was seen more recently as Bergen Paulsen, a character who played opposite Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling in The Nice Guys.

James Woods Reacts to the Deaths of Rob and Michele

It’s safe to say that James Woods and Rob Reiner were on opposite ends of the political spectrum, but the actor was visibly emotional during an appearance on Fox News, where he spoke against some of the “distasteful” comments that some have made about Reiner’s death.

“Rob literally saved my career and really put me back on track in a way that was so important and rewarding in my life. He really fought for me when a studio didn’t want me in a movie,” Woods said. “I went from really being basically out of a job to getting an Academy Award nomination, and I give all the credit to Rob.” Woods starred alongside Alec Baldwin and Whoopi Goldberg in Reiner’s Ghosts of Mississippi.

Woods continued, “I judge people by how they treat me, and Rob Reiner was a Godsend in my life. We got along great, we loved each other… He was always on my side. When people would say to me, ‘What do you think of his politics?’ I would say, ‘I think Rob Reiner is a great patriot. Do I agree on many of his ideas on how that patriotism should be enacted, to celebrate the America that we both love? No. He doesn’t agree with me either, but he also respects my patriotism. We had a different path to the same destination, which was a country we both love. Because you disagree with people doesn’t mean that you have to hate people.“

Others Express their Shock at the Deaths

The family of the late Norman Lear, creator of All in the Family, released a statement to THR, saying, “The Lear Family is devastated by the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner. Norman often referred to Rob as a son, and their close relationship was extraordinary, to us and the world. Norman would have wanted to remind us that Rob and Michele spent every breath trying to make this country a better place, and they pursued that through their art, their activism, their philanthropy, and their love for family and friends. Lyn Lear had remained very close with them and said, ‘The world is unmistakably darker tonight, and we are left bereft.’“

Sally Struthers, who starred alongside Reiner in All in the Family, said, “There are no words. This is beyond devastating and my heart is with their family.“

The Princess Bride star Robin Wright said, “I am deeply shocked and devastated. I cannot begin to imagine what the family is experiencing or what they will have to endure in the months and years ahead. It is truly heartbreaking. Rob was one of the most loving, compassionate, and kind people I have ever known. He was an extraordinary director and the impact he had on me has stayed with me throughout my career. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.“

Kathy Bates, who starred in Reiner’s Misery, said she is “absolutely devastated” by the news. “I loved Rob,” she said. “He was brilliant and kind, a man who made films of every genre to challenge himself as an artist. He also fought courageously for his political beliefs. He changed the course of my life. Michele was a gifted photographer. She shot my beautiful photos for the Misery campaign. My heart breaks for them both. My thoughts are with their family.“

It’s always extremely sad when a legend in the industry is taken from us, but the way in which Reiner and his wife passed makes this all the more tragic.

The famous radio shock jock isn’t going anywhere just yet. This year saw Howard Stern at a contract renewal standoff with SiriusXM, where he has a show on his own channel. Stern would use the ongoing contract negotiations to play a prank on listeners this past fall when he had Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen start his show in Stern’s slot after the summer hiatus and announcing that Stern is no longer with the company. Multiple news outlets, including major names like CNBC, Variety and the Associated Press, had reported on Stern’s leaving his show.

Three More Years

Stern revealed the stunt was a criticism on news reports about his status with his SiriusXM contract while he was on Summer hiatus, calling the inaccurate reports “bad rumors.” The joke was being done at a time when Stern had to decide whether or not he wanted to renew the 5-year contract he signed in 2020. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the standoff has ended, and Stern has now signed on with Sirius with a new three-year contract. Stern started his show this morning saying to his listeners,

I’m happy to announce that I’ve figured out a way to have it all. More free time, and continuing to be on the radio. So yes, we are coming back for three years.”

Stern would continue to say, “I love this company. I truly do. I feel very loyal to this company. They did want me to come back, and they said, whatever you want to do, we’ll do for you. Who says that to anybody? When does your boss say that?”

With a passion for the field as a child, Stern’s climb to the top of the radio world truly began in the ‘80s. The new Anaconda movie “involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rainforest only to find themselves into a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.” Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Ettin.

Black plays an “erstwhile director, a man stuck in his job as a wedding videographer,” with Rudd playing “an actor who did a stint on a cop show but sees his Hollywood dreams slipping further and further away.” Thandiwe Newton and Steve Zahn play the pair’s childhood friends who join them on this adventure. A handful of character posters were recently released for Anaconda, with the film set to hit theaters on December 25.

What will Netflix gain from its deal with iHeart?

Natalie Jarvey of The Ankler says the deal would include around 20 shows, including Charlamagne tha God’s popular radio show-turned video podcast The Breakfast Club, and Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know, a podcast iHeart acquired in 2018 through a $55 million deal with Stuff Media.

Netflix has spent the better part of the year trying to gain a foothold in the podcast space. Podcasts account for an astronomical amount of views on YouTube, making them a must-have for the popular streaming network. While Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other platforms host podcasts, many people listen to their favorite shows via YouTube out of convenience, not to mention the lack of a subscription fee, unless you already pay for YouTube Premium.

When did Netflix start zeroing in on podcasts?

In October, Netflix announced a partnership with Spotify to host video episodes of 16 sports, culture, and true crime shows, including The Bill Simmons Podcast, Rewatchables, Conspiracy Killers, and The Dave Chang Show. The deal could take effect next year, with part of the arrangement being that the episodes cannot be uploaded to YouTube.

Imagine YouTube losing a portion of its traffic to Netflix, which is swooping in for a piece of the action. You might say to yourself, ‘YouTube is massive, who cares?’ I bet YouTube cares. You don’t become the dominant video platform on the internet overall by rolling over to outfits like Netflix. Plus, Netflix is already vying to gain control of a portion of Warner Bros. Is Netflix biting off more than it can chew? If they get control of a section of iHeart’s podcast library, will they dedicate prime real estate to it, or bury it as Netflix does with its gaming content? We’ll need to wait and see.

Ok, so the sub-headline is for my history buffs out there — as the Battle of New Orleans was fought after the War of 1812 had already ended. Comparatively, the bidding war for Warner Bros. had seemingly ended, and the fate of the company was thought to be sealed. However, Paramount is still fighting the battle with their aggressive offers despite a deal being made with Netflix. The company had reportedly “commenced an all-cash tender offer to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Warner Bros. Discovery for $30 per share in cash, a deal it says equates to an enterprise value of $108.4 billion.” Unless Paramount becomes successful in its takeover, Netflix currently has a grip on all Warner properties.

WB Games treated as an afterthought?

Now that Netflix has made this deal with Warner Bros., one of the many concerns that people had is how the streaming giant would also manage the subsidiaries under the WB umbrella. The precious gold for Netflix is the movie and TV properties, but Warners also has a slew of video game studios like TT Games (the LEGO game makers), Rocksteady Studios (the Batman: Arkham series) NetherRealm Studios (Mortal Kombat) and others whose fate is currently in the air. According to The Hollywood Reporter, despite the video game branch being a moneymaker and IP-generator for Hollywood, they are not among the top three assets that Netflix will be dedicating attention to.

Joost van Dreunen, a video games professor at the NYU Stern School of Business and the author of One Up: Creativity, Competition, and the Global Business of Video Games, told THR that he is “not super whelmed” by the idea of Netflix managing the gaming branch of the company. Netflix did enter the gaming world in 2021 with some casual mobile originals based on their own IP, but van Dreunen says it was “just a referral engine.” It was seemingly pushed aside, as van Dreunen states, “They had this grand ambition … this was going to be transformative.” He also says Netflix’s gaming effort “feels like the result of the initial efforts not quite turning around. It’s not for lack of talent or lack of IP or lack of effort — [it’s] just not a natural fit.”

The professor is holding out for hope, but also feeling jaded, saying, “While I still believe that they’re going to come up with something reasonable, they have kind of pushed the little games pots to the back of the stove.” He continued, “I read the (acquisition) pitch deck, and they mentioned the word ‘games’ exactly twice and [the plan] is never described.”
