Last year, it was revealed that Larry David would be joining forces with former President Barack Obama for a new HBO comedy series. At SXSW, David revealed the title, a clip, and premiere date for Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America.

When Will the Series Premiere?

The series, which satirizes the United States of America in celebration of its 250th anniversary, is set to premiere on HBO on June 26. The seven episodes have been directed by Jeff Schaffer, with each one containing around four sketches. An ensemble of comedy stars joins David in the fun, including Curb Your Enthusiasm alumni Jeff Garlin, J.B. Smoove, and Susie Essman. Schaffer referred to the show as “Curb in costume.

Other guest stars include Bill Hader and Kathryn Hahn, who will play Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln, Jon Hamm and Sean Hayes, who will play the Wright brothers and David and Jerry Seinfeld, who will play Lewis and Clark. Vince Vaughn will also guest star.

Barack and Michelle Obama produce through their production company, Higher Ground, and Barack will also appear in the series.

Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness clip

The clip features David witnessing the famous V-J Day in Times Square photo, with a Navy sailor kissing a woman on the street. Deciding he’d like to give that a try, David searches for a random woman to kiss, but it doesn’t go as planned, and he’s quickly labelled a “pervo-Nazi” as the crowd descends upon him. Classic Larry.

In a statement when the series was first announced, the former President said, “I’ve sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of our most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.

Amy Gravitt, EVP, Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Programming, added, “It’s hard to remember a time before Curb, or without Larry David’s perspective on modern life. We’re thrilled that Larry is coming back to HBO, this time with Higher Ground, to give us a glimpse at our shared history as we celebrate our Semiquincentennial.
