Thirteen years have gone by since the release of a new entry in the Scary Movie horror parody series – but the franchise isn’t dormant any longer. In 2024, it was announced that the Miramax label at Paramount, which is now operating under new boss Jonathan Glickman, had given the greenlight to a new Scary Movie sequel (Scary Movie 6, to be exact), with the plan being to get the film into theatres sometime in 2025. Well, they weren’t able to get the film into production as quickly as they hoped, but Scary Movie 6 is scheduled to reach theatres on June 5, 2026

With that date just a few months away, a trailer recently dropped online to give us a preview of scenes that parody recent Scream sequels, Terrifier 3, Sinners, Get Out, and more. Acknowledging the fact that Sinners took home some Oscar gold on Sunday night, a new teaser has been unveiled to show off more of the movie’s Sinners parody scene. You can check it out in the embed above.

Cast

The Wayans Brothers wrote the screenplay for the new film with Rick Alvarez, who has previously worked with members of the family on multiple projects, including A Haunted House, A Haunted House 2, Fifty Shades of Black, Naked, Sextuplets, Dance Flick, Little Man, White Chicks, and Scary Movie 2, among other things.

Directed by Michael Tiddes, who was the helm of the Haunted House movies, Fifty Shades of Black, Naked, and Sextuplets (and don’t forget Half Baked: Totally High), Scary Movie 6 stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall, reprising the roles of Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks.

Other returning cast members include Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, and Jon Abrahams. Newcomers include Olivia Rose Keegan, Savannah Lee Nassif, Cameron Scott Roberts, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Ruby Snowber, Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, Heidi Gardner, and Benny Zielke.

Sleepaway Camp‘s Felissa Rose and Terrifier producer Michael Leavy are featured in the Terrifier 3 parody sequence.

Scary Movie Refresher

Directed by In Living Color creator Keenen Ivory Wayans from a screenplay written by a bunch of people (Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Buddy Johnson, Phil Beauman, Jason Friedberg, and Aaron Seltzer), the first Scary Movie was released by Dimension Films back in 2000.

Scary Movie 2 was released in 2001, and the Wayans remained at the head of the creative team for that one. Keenen Ivory Wayans directed it from a screenplay credited to Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Alyson Fouse, Greg Grabianski, Dave Polsky, Michael Anthony Snowden, and Craig Wayans.

There was a shake-up behind the scenes on 2003’s Scary Movie 3, as Dimension hired Airplane and The Naked Gun director David Zucker to take the helm. Zucker directed that film from a screenplay by Craig Mazin and Pat Proft. That trio returned for Scary Movie 4 in 2006, with Jim Abrahams also receiving a writing credit.

Seven years later, Pat Proft and David Zucker came back to write Scary Movie 5, which was directed by Undercover Brother‘s Malcolm D. Lee.

The first Scary Movie was made on a budget of $19 million and earned $278 million at the box office, so the budgets increased for most of the sequels. Scary Movie 2 cost $45 million and made $141 million, Scary Movie 3 cost $48 million and made almost $221 million, and Scary Movie 4 was made for $40 million and earned $178 million at the box office. After the lengthy break between movies, Scary Movie 5 got a lower budget, dropping back down to $20 million. That was a good decision, because the film only made $78 million at the box office.

Sharks invade a town during a category 5 storm in the trailer for Thrash https://www.joblo.com/trailer-thrash/ https://www.joblo.com/trailer-thrash/#respond Thu, 12 Mar 2026 13:59:21 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=891914 Tommy Wirkola and Adam McKay bring you a new cheesy fun time with the shark-infested, hurricane film from Netflix.

Thrashin’

In the new trailer for the upcoming thriller, Thrash, Djimon Hounsou screams, “Sharks on the loose in the category 5 storm!” This line appears to be nearly as tongue-in-cheek as “I’ve had it with these motherf*cking snakes on this motherf*cking plane!” And that’s what the trailer to Thrash is looking like — just a good old, cheesy, fun time. The Netflix film comes from Violent Night‘s Tommy Wirkola and is produced by comedy filmmaker Adam McKay, so you know you’re in for some self-aware excitement. The movie stars Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou. The additional names in the cast include Matt Nable, Andrew Lees, Alyla Browne, Stacy Clausen and Dante Ubaldi.

Who’s doing the thrashin’?

The official synopsis reads,
“When a Category 5 hurricane decimates a coastal town, the storm surge brings devastation, chaos and something far more frightening: hungry sharks.”

Wirkola writes and directs the film, as well as produces with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick credited right alongside him. D. Scott Lumpkin is on board as the executive producer.

Obsessed with sharks

Wirkola stated to Netflix, “I became obsessed with sharks after Jaws—and Jaws 2, which is an underrated movie. I spent a lot of my childhood obsessing over sharks and whatever movie was made about that subject. Fast forward to a world going off its rails when it comes to global warming and flash floods happening everywhere, and it dawned on me that this could be a great setting-off point for a movie, combining the idea of a disaster-movie with a shark-thriller.”

Then, McKay would add, “More and more, you’re hearing marine biologists acknowledge that climate is changing where these sharks go. It’s changing how they behave. So, in as much as this is an edge-of-your-seat popcorn film, the science behind it is not implausible.” McKay had also confessed, “I’m one of those kids who, from like age 9 on, was a bit obsessed with sharks. And my wife always jokes I know way more than I should know about sharks. It’s that primal fear. It’s that awe of any apex predator.”

Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe has returned to the genre world with her latest project, the sci-fi thriller Imposters, which is set to have its world premiere at the SXSW film festival this weekend. With its premiere just a few days a way, a teaser trailer for the film has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

Written and directed by Caleb Phillips, who made his feature directorial debut with the 2017 comedy thriller Brothers in Arms, Imposters has the following synopsis: After a couple’s baby boy is taken, the desperate mother learns of a way to bring him back. However, her husband begins to suspect that what she returned with isn’t their son.

Rothe is joined in the cast by Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Yul Vazquez (Will Trent), Bates Wilder (American Fiction), Luisina Quarleri (Coyote Lake), Thomas Parobek (The Crowded Room), Ian Lyons (Julia), Taylor Karin (Finding Master Right), Declan Bennett (EastEnders), and Lee Bennett (Knight of the Dead).

Imposters was produced by Thomas Bond, Sara Seligman, and Joe Bandelli.

Director’s Statement

Phillips provided the following statement: “I love genre, and wanted to make a twisty thriller that would satisfy the Mr. Robot, Attack on Titan, and Lost fan in me. I wanted to make a movie for people who like guessing twists and obsessing over theories with their friends. I think mystery is one of the most
powerful shortcuts to empathy. When it hits everyone leans forward, and I think it makes us more curious about complicated characters.

At the same time, I make films that are deeply personal to me. Imposters started as two different short films. It finally clicked when I realized that both shorts were the same story. One the first act, and the other the third act. Once I have the concept, I make it personal. When I was writing Imposters, my parents and family structure were imploding. After thirty years of marriage, untreated mental illness, and a horrible court case, they finally divorced. Neither taking accountability for the damage they did. When Imposters came into my life, I was trying to understand how two people so wrong from each other could stay together for so long, and destroy so much. Was it for their children, or were they just afraid of being alone? The characters in Imposters aren’t my parents. They’re how I tried to understand what happened. The theme of codependency is there, but that felt like a hand-wave. I wanted to know why people don’t change.

I wrote Imposters for more than just that, however. I had something to prove. My short film Other Side of the Box collectively has 30+ million views on YouTube, and after three years, it made no difference. No one was going to take a chance on an ‘unproven director.’ Mark Duplass was right, the cavalry wasn’t coming. Duplass, Jim Cummings, and Rob Savage just went out and made their movies, why couldn’t I? The movie could fall apart, but it would be on my terms. I intended for it to be a shoestring budget, scrappy, handheld movie, and was going to suffer from having no money, but it didn’t matter, because it would exist. Then my producer friends believed in it, they found more money than I expected, we cast actors way above our level, and suddenly we were making a real movie. It was an example of ‘Build it and they will come.’

Adam Scott has plenty of experience with the horrific and weird, having starred in the likes of Severance, Little Evil, Krampus, Piranha 3D, and Hellraiser: Bloodline. Earlier this year, we learned that he’s adding to his genre résumé with the supernatural horror film Hokum, which was filmed on location in Ireland. A few months ago, it was announced that NEON and Waypoint Entertainment’s Cweature Features have boarded the project, with NEON planning to give the film a theatrical release in the United States on May 1, 2026. And today, a full trailer has arrived online. You can watch it in the embed above.

What is Hokum about?

Hokum is coming our way from writer/director Damian McCarthy, whose horror film Oddity is said to have “caused a stir after premiering at SXSW, where it won the audience award in the Midnighter section.” That movie made its way out into the world last summer, telling the story of “a blind medium and curio shopkeeper who is still grieving the death of her twin sister a year prior when a wooden mannequin from her collection becomes crucial to her quest to uncover the truth about her sister’s murder.” The story McCarthy has crafted for Hokum will see Scott taking on the role of a horror novelist who visits a remote Irish inn to spread his parents’ ashes, unaware the place is rumored to be haunted by a witch. Here’s the synopsis: When reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman (Scott) retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Soon, disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw him into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past. Scott is joined in the cast by Peter Coonan (Bad Sisters) and David Wilmot (Bodkin).

Behind the scenes

Cweature Features are co-producers on the project, joining Image Nation and Spooky Pictures, as well as Team Thrives, who co-financed.

Hokum is being produced by Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy, and Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, and Mairtín de Barra. Ben Ross, Dan Kagan, Rami Yasin, and Andrew Childs serve as executive producers. Cweature Features’ Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum are executive producers as well. The project is also supported by co-production funding from Screen Ireland/ Fís Éireann.

Director Andy Muschietti and his producer / sister Barbara Muschietti, the filmmaking team behind Mama and the $1 billion grossing adaptations of Stephen King’s It, recently teamed up with Skydance to form a new horror label called Nocturna, and the first project to come out of the Nocturna partnership is the horror thriller They Will Kill You, which has New Line Cinema on board to co-finance and distribute. It was recently announced that the film will be reaching theatres on March 27, 2026 – and with that date right around the corner, the final trailer has dropped online! You can watch it in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

Zazie Beetz, whose credits include Joker, Bullet Train, and Deadpool 2, stars as a woman who answers a help wanted ad to be a housekeeper in a mysterious high-rise in New York City, not realizing she is entering a community that has seen a number of disappearances over the years and may be under the grip of a Satanic cult. Beetz is joined in the cast by Patricia Arquette (True Romance), Tom Felton of the Harry Potter franchise, Heather Graham of Boogie Nights and Suitable Flesh, and Myha’la of Industry and Bodies Bodies Bodies. Arquette’s character is one of the leads, the head of the co-op. Felton is a member of the cult.

They Will Kill You is described as being “a tonal mix of Ready or Not and The Raid.” Kirill Sokolov – who is said to be known for his dark sense of humor – will be directing the film from a screenplay he wrote with Alex Litvak. Sokolov previously directed the action comedy No Looking Back and the comedic thriller Why Don’t You Just Die!, both of which were Russian productions. Litvak is best known for writing the 2010 Predator sequel Predators with Michael Finch. He went on to co-write Paul W.S. Anderson’s version of The Three Musketeers and the TV movie Secret Society of Second Born Royals.

The Muschiettis are producing They Will Kill You alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Dan Kagan. Nocturna Co-Heads of Film, Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder, serve as executive producers with Sokolov, Litvak, and Carl Hampe. Barbara Muschietti has described the film as a fun horror comedy action movie that will make viewers smile.

Judging by the final trailer, it looks like Muschietti’s description is right on the money. They Will Kill You seems like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

A couple of years ago, Curry Barker wrote, directed, and starred in the found footage horror movie Milk & Serial, which is said to have had a budget of $800. Baker then released the movie through YouTube, where the free-to-watch video has racked up more than 2 million views. Even though he already sent Milk & Serial out into the world, it’s his new horror movie, Obsession, that’s being billed as his feature directorial debut – and a while back, Focus Features forked over more than $15 million for Obsession distribution rights in the United States. Now, they’re revving up the marketing machine so they can get a good ROI. We’ve seen two teaser trailers for the film so far (the first here, the second here), and now a full trailer has been unveiled! You can watch it in the embed above.

Obsession will be reaching theatres on May 15, 2026. Focus Features has partnered with Blumhouse to bring this movie into the world, and Blumhouse founder Jason Blum has come on board as an executive producer. Universal Pictures International is handling the worldwide distribution.

Cast and Synopsis

Starring Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, Obsession is a story about a hopeless romantic who makes a wish that his long-time crush falls in love with him. A sinister enchantment ensues. Here’s the official synopsis: After breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price. Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter are also in the cast.

James Harris of Teashop Productions produced the film with Haley Nicole Johnson of Under the Shell, Christian Mercuri of Capstone Pictures, and Roman Viaris. Blum’s fellow executive producers are Leonora Darby (Teashop), Mark Lane (Teashop), David Haring (Capstone), and Ruzanna Kegeyan (Capstone Pictures).

TIFF

The movie had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Here’s Peter Kuplowsky’s Obsession write-up for TIFFWoe is Bear (Michael Johnston), who has long carried a torch for his childhood friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette). When another attempted profession of love fizzles, Bear wistfully wishes for romantic reciprocation, unfortunately doing so while in possession of a trinket with supernatural properties of The Monkey’s Paw variety. Suddenly, Nikki is all over Bear, and he is quick to indulge in this long-desired turnabout while ignoring the ramifications of her intensifying fixation. Before long, Bear’s fantasy turns to nightmare as Nikki’s personality begins to twitch with a disturbing dysphoria that sinisterly suggests her autonomy has been usurped by a malignant entity that wants them both, body and soul. “Be careful what you wish for” may be a staple in the horror genre, but writer-director Curry Barker enlivens this well-worn premise by lacing its inherent irony with a wickedly wry tone and an anxious tension that’ll plummet the stomach of even hardened Midnighters. Having honed high-concept absurdism and creeping dread from his online productions, Barker deftly demonstrates a savvy command of tone and terror reminiscent of fellow sketch comedian Zach Cregger’s Barbarian. As with that auspicious debut, Barker’s first feature preserves an uncomfortable relatability in its hyperbolic scenario. Though literally featuring a customer service call from (and possibly to) Hell, Obsession cuts to the quick as it lays bare the innate violence in romantic objectification with an unforgiving candidness. That’s made all the more disarming, thanks to exceptionally nuanced performances, particularly from Navarrette whose “Freaky Nikki” oscillates between doe-eyed desire and devastating torment that will chill you to the bone.

Made on a budget of less than $100,000, director Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey earned more than $6 million during its global release in early 2023, so not only did the sequel Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 have a substantially higher budget, that success opened the door to an entire cinematic universe that will consist of at least one more Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey sequel and other horror movies inspired by children’s stories, like Peter Pan’s Neverland NightmareBambi: The Reckoning, and Pinocchio: Unstrung. (Along with the crossover Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.) A release date for Pinocchio: Unstrung has not yet been announced, but the movie is coming soon – so soon that a trailer has arrived online! As we’ve previously heard, Todd Masters of MastersFx, who worked on the 2019 Child’s Play remake, headed up the animatronics and puppetry. The Prosthetics Studio, which has worked on the Star Wars and Harry Potter franchises, will be providing the practical gore.

Frake-Waterfield directed Pinocchio: Unstrung. The story follows young James as he learns of his grandfather Geppetto’s deadly secret: Pinocchio. Cameron Bell, Jessica Balmer, Jack Art Gray, and Peter De Souza-Feighoney star alongside A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Robert Englund and Rob Zombie regular Richard Brake.

Statements

Brake previously had this to say about the project: “Not only is the script dark, twisted and gory, it’s also at times very funny. Todd Masters and his team have created incredible practical effects. Audiences are in for a crazy ride.” Masters added, “I’ve forever loved the original and demented story from the 1880s. So I was excited to join this production, to bring this little puppet to life — with all practical FX. This version is still a little puppet’s pursuit to becoming a boy… but the way he becomes one, is extremely gnarly… and frankly, very fun.

Frake-Waterfield said, “Our movie flips everything you know about Pinocchio on its head. We have an incredibly talented cast and crew working on this. We are heavily relying on practical effects for all of the deaths and creature work. I can’t wait for the world to meet Pinocchio.

Johnny’s back, and he’s ready for another bloodbath… after many extended walks through the woods. IFC has dropped the first teaser trailer for In a Violent Nature 2, which finds Johnny going full Voorhees as he stalks a new group of victims at summer camp. Check it out above!

In a Violent Nature 2

In just 60 seconds, the sequel does look like it will feature more action than the first movie. The official logline reads: “In A Violent Nature 2, Johnny’s violent rampage leads him to a summer camp just as a young, outcast camper is forced to spend the night with his counselor sister and her friends at their annual end-of-season party.

Ry Barrett is back as Johnny, and he’s joined by Lucas Nguyen, Olivia Scriven, Laurie Babin, Fionn Laird, Donald MacLean Jr., and Evan Marsh.

Nathaniel Wilson, who was the first assistant director on the original movie, is stepping up to direct the follow-up. “With this sequel, fans can expect an exponential increase of the ol’ ultraviolence with a distinct hook, but one that still collides with storied slasher traditions,” said producer Peter Kuplowsky. Original director Chris Nash returns to write the script, and produces alongside Kuplowsky, Shannon Hanmer, and Michael James Regan.

The First Movie was Divisive

The first movie was a slow burn, with many scenes of the killer slowly stalking his victims throughout the woods. Sure, some of the kills, particularly that gruesome Yoga death, were highly memorable, but it wasn’t enough for some members of the audience. Our own Tyler Nichols wasn’t a big fan.

In A Violent Nature is easily the most disappointed I’ve been with a horror film in quite some time,” Nichols wrote in his review. “As a massive slasher fan, I had very high expectations. The idea of deconstructing the genre and elevating it is a lifelong dream for most fans. Or heck, even simplifying it and distilling it down to its essence could have also worked. Yet this does none of that. It simply takes a very bland slasher script, and gives it some Gus Van Sant camerawork and editing. And when that results in 70% of the movie just being a guy walking for long periods; it ultimately feels pointless.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

Three years ago, Legendary Entertainment’s remake of the infamous 1978 box office hit Faces of Death (get it HERE) went into production in Louisiana, with Barbie Ferreira of the HBO series Euphoria, Dacre Montgomery of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Josie Totah of the recent Saved by the Bell revival, Jermaine Fowler of The Blackening, and singer Charli XCX making up the cast. It’s been a long wait, but the new Faces of Death will be reaching theatres on April 10th – and today, a full red band trailer for the film has dropped online. You can watch it in the embed above.

Reminder

The first Faces of Death was about a pathologist exploring gruesome ways to die via footage purportedly culled from around the world. In reality, most of the death scenes were staged, but no matter, the movie had its producers’ desired effect: outrage, revulsion, banning (although not in 52 countries, as hyped by the film’s makers), and, of course, a money-making hit that spawned sequels and imitators. It was written and directed by John Alan Schwartz, who used multiple pseudonyms for several crew jobs on the flick.

Seven sequels followed over the next twenty-one years. Now writer Isa Mazzei and director Daniel Goldhaber, the team that brought us the Netflix release Cam, are making the remake for Legendary Entertainment and producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford’s company Angry Films.

New Film

Mazzei and Goldhaber provided the following statement about their approach to the concept: “Faces of Death was one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online.

When it was first announced that Mazzei and Goldhaber were taking on the project, it was said that their story would center on a female moderator of a YouTube-like website whose job is to weed out offensive and violent content and who herself is recovering from a serious trauma, who stumbles across a group that is re-creating the murders from the original film. But in the story primed for the digital age of online misinformation, the question is: Are the murders real or fake?

Murphy and Montford are producing the Faces of Death remake with Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath. Rick Benattar serves as executive producer, with Cory Kaplan co-producing. Murphy and Montford have been hoping to make a new version of Faces of Death ever since 2006, and for several years they had J.T. Petty attached to write and direct. They started the development process over from scratch when they hired Mazzei and Goldhaber.

Are you looking forward to the Faces of Death remake? Take a look at the trailer, if you dare, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

The post Newborn trailer: David Oyelowo stars in an edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller appeared first on JoBlo.

Newborn, which is described as being “an emotionally charged, edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller that will stay with audiences long-after the end credits roll,” is set to receive a theatrical release – exclusively in AMC theatres – on April 10th. With that date right around the corner, a trailer for the film, which stars David Oyelowo of Lawmen: Bass Reeves, has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above.

Synopsis

Written and directed by Nate Parker, who runs the joint production and distribution label Mansa Studios with Oyelowo, Newborn follows Chris Newborn (Oyelowo) who after serving seven years in solitary confinement seeks to rebuild his life and reconnect with his family only to find that freedom has become a terrifying psychological battleground. I have to say, it’s a relief to find out the movie is called Newborn because it’s the guy’s last name and not because there’s a baby at the center of the thrills. Newborn horror peaked with Rosemary’s Baby and It’s Alive.

Parker and Oyelowo produced the film alongside Aaron L. Gilbert and Christina Lee Storm.

Oyelowo is joined in the cast by Olivia Washington (I’m a Virgo), Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan), and Jimmie Fails (The Last Black Man in San Francisco).

Long-Awaited Release

Deadline notes that the film, which was originally known as Solitary, went into production in 2020… and then, for years, it was an unreleased mystery, as it “had to contend with the COVID period, and an increasingly challenged space for indie film distribution.” AMC got on board with a vote of distribution confidence around the holidays, and now we’re just weeks away from the movie finally making its way out into the world.

Nikkole Denson-Randolph, Chief Content Officer, AMC Theatres, provided the following statement: “Newborn is the kind of bold, provocative, and original storytelling that comes alive on the big screen. We’re proud to be the exclusive exhibitor supporting a release model that prioritizes theatrical.

Oyelowo added, “When it came to our distribution goals, AMC truly understood the empowering direct-to-consumer nature of the partnership we were seeking for our film while embracing the non-algorithmic yet immersive experience we wanted the audience to have.

Parker said, “It was essential to us that audiences experience this emotionally charged, edge-of-your-seat thriller together—on the biggest possible stage, and AMC provides both scale and a dedicated audience.

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma teaser: Jane Schoenbrun, Gillian Anderson horror film reaches theatres in August https://www.joblo.com/camp-miasma-teaser/ https://www.joblo.com/camp-miasma-teaser/#respond Wed, 25 Feb 2026 17:13:33 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=889741 Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder star in the psychosexual horror film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

The post Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma teaser: Jane Schoenbrun, Gillian Anderson horror film reaches theatres in August appeared first on JoBlo.

Filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun caught a lot of attention with their debut feature We’re All Going to the World’s Fair. The film even caught the attention of Emma Stone, who produced Schoenbrun’s second feature, I Saw the TV Glow – which didn’t impress our review Chris Bumbray (you can read his 5/10 review at THIS LINK), but did earn praise from Martin Scorsese. Now, Schoenbrun’s next movie, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, is heading for an August 7th theatrical released in U.S. theatres… and today, a teaser trailer for the film has arrived online. You can watch it in the embed above.

Background

Even better than the title is the fact that Schoenbrun has described the idea as being like “Portrait of a Lady on Fire set in a Friday the 13th sequel.”

In case you missed it, Portrait of a Lady on Fire was a 2019 French historical romantic drama film written and directed by Céline Sciamma. It told the story of “Marianne, a female painter, who is commissioned to paint a portrait of Heloise, an aristocratic woman, in a wedding dress. They soon fall in love with each other but cannot unite.” And Friday the 13th sequels – well, we all know what they’re about, don’t we? A slasher chopping people up, usually in a woodsy setting.

Plan B Entertainment, the film and TV production company headed by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner, is producing Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, with arthouse distributor and streamer Mubi financing and handling the distribution in North America, Latin America, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Turkey, India, Australia, and New Zealand. Daniel Bekerman from Scythia Films serves as an executive producer.

Cast and Synopsis

The plot is said to involve a queer filmmaker being hired to direct a new installment of a long-running slasher franchise. The director fixates on the prospect of casting the ‘final girl‘ from the original movie, and the two women descend into a frenzy of psychosexual mania. Here’s the official synopsis: After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.

Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) lead the cast. Their co-stars include Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, Quintessa Swindell, and Jack Haven.

The post Backrooms teaser trailer gives a preview of the creepy rooms we’ll see in the sci-fi horror film appeared first on JoBlo.

Three years ago, it was announced that some of today’s biggest genre companies – A24, James Wan‘s Atomic Monster, the Stranger Things makers at 21 Laps, and Planet of the Apes producers Chernin Entertainment – are joining forces on a new project called Backrooms, which marks the feature directorial debut of director and VFX artist Kane Parsons, who is now 20 years old. We’ve been waiting for this one a while, but the wait will come to an end soon, as Backrooms is aiming for a May 29 theatrical release. Today, a teaser trailer has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above.

Cast

Backrooms went into production around eight months ago with Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World) heading up the cast. They’re joined by Mark Duplass (Creep), Finn Bennett (True Detective), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking), and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap).

A24 and Chernin Entertainment are co-financing Backrooms. Patino is producing the film alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Levine of 21 Laps and James Wan and Michael Clear of Atomic Monster. Alayna Glasthal is overseeing the project for Atomic Monster, while the company’s Judson Scott executive produces.

Story

Backrooms is based on a series of viral videos Parsons released through his YouTube channel Kane Pixels. If you were to splice those videos together they would reach feature length, but the feature version of Backrooms is going to be something entirely new. The screenplay for the feature has been written by Roberto Patino (DMZ).

Deadline previously noted that details as to the plot of the sci-fi horror feature are under wraps. But in the original short, a young filmmaker’s fall into another dimension leaves him wandering through an unsettlingly yellow, empty and labyrinthine office space, which may or may not be home to otherworldly beings. The film’s title and setting draw inspiration from the imagery of a creepypasta (or internet urban legend) published to the website 4chan in 2019. An interview with Parsons on ABC provided the information that his series tells the story of a shadowy organization, called ASYNC, which in the late 1980s opens a portal connecting the real world to The Backrooms.

The post Everything has led to this: the final trailer for Scream 7 appeared first on JoBlo.

The February 27, 2026 theatrical release of the slasher sequel Scream 7 is swiftly approaching, and today the final trailer for the film has dropped online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Troubled History

Spyglass Media and Paramount once intended to make a Scream 7 that would have starred Scream (2022) and Scream VI leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, with Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon at the helm. But then Ortega allegedly asked for a substantial pay raise – and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. Then Barrera was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass. Landon dropped out the of the project soon after. So Scream 7 has been re-developed, Campbell has signed on to return as Sidney Prescott, back in the lead role, while Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original Scream, directs the film from a screenplay by 2022’s Scream and Scream VI writer Guy Busick, who crafted the story with his co-writer on the fifth and sixth films, James Vanderbilt. (Vanderbilt is also a producer on the most recent sequels.) Williamson also did enough work on the script to earn a “screenplay by” credit alongside Busick.

Cast and Synopsis

Neve Campbell is joined in the cast by Isabel May of the Yellowstone prequel 1883, who has signed on to play Sidney’s daughter Tatum; Mckenna Grace of the Ghostbusters franchise, Grace’s Ghostbusters co-star Celeste O’Connor, Gen V‘s Asa Germann, The Fabelmans‘ Sam Rechner, Pitch Perfect‘s Anna Camp, Riverdale‘s Mark Consuelos, fellow franchise star Courteney Cox, who reprises the role of reporter / author Gale Weathers, Joel McHale (Community) as Sidney’s husband Mark Evans, and Ethan Embray (The Devil’s Candy). Although two of the “core four” characters established in the previous two movies are no longer around, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are back as Chad Meeks-Martin and Mindy Meeks-Martin.

Also in the cast are Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, who played Ghostface killers in the original Scream and Scream 3, respectively, and did not appear to make it out of those movies alive. David Arquette is back as the dearly departed Dewey, who exited the world of the living in the fifth movie.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis: When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.

Scream 7 has earned an R rating with strong bloody violence, gore, and language. Are you looking forward to the film? Take a look at the final trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

From the writing and directing duo of Gene Gallerano and William Pisciotta comes The Yeti, which Well Go USA Entertainment will be giving a digital and limited theatrical release on April 10th. We don’t have long to wait before that date arrives – and in the meantime, a trailer for the film has dropped online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

The Yeti tells the following story: Merriell Sunday Sr. and Hollis Bannister vanished in Alaska. Ellie and Merriell Jr. mount a search, but an ancient threat stalks their expedition into the wilderness, hunting them as they seek the truth behind the disappearances.

Brittany Allen (Dexter: Original Sin), Eric Nelsen (1883), Jim Cummings (The Last Stop in Yuma County), Christina Bennett Lind (The Lonely Man with the Ghost Machine), and Linc Hand (42) star with William Sadler (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight) and Corbin Bernsen (Major League).

Johnathan Brownlee and Ross Meyerson produced the film, with Jim Cummings, Michael Izquierdo, PJ McCabe, William Pisciotta, and Kira Wahlstrom serving as executive producers. Frank Coppola and Romano Natale were co-producers, with Michael Izquierdo, Corey Ronald Walter, and Kaelyn Walter associate producing.

This marks the feature directorial debut of Gene Gallerano and William Pisciotta.

Other Yetis

It should be noted that The Yeti is an entirely separate project from the survival thriller Yeti that was announced ten months ago, with The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Conjuring: Last Rites director Michael Chaves attached to direct. It is also, unfortunately, entirely separate from the Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal yeti projects that were in development years ago.

What did you think of the trailer for The Yeti? Does this look like something you’d be interested in watching this April? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

It will be interesting to see what sort of tone the movie has for the majority of its running time, because the trailer has a blend of serious moments combined with a goofiness reminiscent of Grindhouse faux trailers. I still live in hope that I’m going to get to see Jean-Claude Van Damme fight a yeti someday, but this movie will hold me over in the meantime.

In June of 2024, it was announced that Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin had signed on to write and direct a new genre project for Atomic Monster, Blumhouse Productions, and New Line Cinema… and that December, we found out what that mysterious project is, as it was revealed that Cronin has come up with a new take on the concept of The Mummy! Cronin confirmed, “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.” The film is set to reach theatres on April 17, 2026 – and with that date swiftly approaching, a full trailer for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy has been unveiled. Check it out in the embed above!

Cast

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy stars Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Laia Costa (Victoria), May Calamawy (Moon Knight), Veronica Falcón (Queen of the South), Hayat Kamille (Vikings: Valhalla), and May Elghety (Clash).

It should be noted that, since the project is set up at New Line Cinema, this “new take on the horror trope revolving around the ancient mummified undead” has nothing to do with the classic Universal horror property. We heard back in May 2024 that there are three Mummy projects in development at Universal, including a prequel that screenwriter Wes Tooke is working on and a sequel to the Brendan Fraser films (those being The Mummy 1999, The Mummy Returns, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor). It was recently confirmed that Fraser and Rachel Weisz are coming back for The Mummy 4, which has Radio Silence attached to direct from a script by David Coggeshall.

Synopsis

Here’s the synopsis: synopsis: The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.

Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are co-financing Lee Cronin’s film. James Wan is producing alongside Jason Blum and John Keville. Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Macdara Kelleher serve as executive producers. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing the project for Atomic Monster. Cronin’s Doppelgängers banner is also producing.

Judging by the trailer, this might be the most twisted mummy movie ever made. What did you think of the trailer for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Last week, we lost actor James Van Der Beek at the much-too-young age of 48… and today, a trailer for his final film has arrived online. Titled The Gates, this one is a horror film that’s scheduled to receive a limited theatrical release on March 13th, courtesy of Lionsgate Premiere. The trailer can be viewed in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

Written and directed by John Burr, The Gates follows three college students – Derek, Kevin and Tyon – on a road trip gone wrong. The trio takes an ill-advised shortcut through a remote gated community, where they find themselves trapped after witnessing a murder. Over the course of the night, they are blamed, hunted and fractured by their own differing belief systems, while the perpetrator (played by Van Der Beek) emerges as the cunning patriarch who holds the entire community under his influence.

Van Der Beek is joined in the cast by Mason Gooding (Scream 7), Algee Smith (Euphoria), and Keith Powers (The Tomorrow War), who play the college students, as well as Jack Snyder (The Wife Who Knew Too Much), Brad Leland (Friday Night Lights), Sofia Hublitz (Ozark), Shelby Simmons (A Big Bold Beautiful Journey), Kylr Coffman (New Year’s Rev), and Natacha Ellie (Hello Beautiful).

The film has been rated R for violence, language, some sexual references, and brief drug use.

Director’s Statement

Burr shared the following statement with Deadline and Collider: “Before all else, I want to send sympathy and love to James’ family; his wife Kimberly, and his children Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, Joshua and Jeremiah. Thank you for granting us the precious time with him that we had.

James was a legend. I first met him at a cafe just outside Austin to chat about the script for a film we wanted to work on together. His charisma and energy were evident immediately. He was a man of great conviction, and it was clear that he approached life with a unique sense of passion and dedication that he applied to everything from his work, to his family, to the life he’d built in rural Texas after the early success of his career.

We were incredibly fortunate to have worked with him on this film. He brought experience and perspective to the role, and he built profound relationships with his fellow cast members and with the crew. And while he was deeply dedicated to his performance as the flawed, amoral antagonist of our story, between scenes he effortlessly morphed back into the grounded, charming conversationalist he was at his core. He never missed an opportunity to speak glowingly of his wife, brag about his kids, laugh about the lighter moments in his career, or to ask others what was going on in their lives. His energy was contagious. None of us knew that he was already deep into his battle, and we were all shocked to learn with the rest of the world about his diagnosis.

Over the last few months, my conversations with James were limited to periodic text messages. His words were filled with energy and punctuated with exclamation points even as his health must have been in decline. Despite knowing his diagnosis, the news of his passing was shocking. In the minutes and hours after it broke, countless members of the production team have reached out, expressing grief and sharing memories, bonding in our shared love and sadness. And thus, even though he is no longer with us, his energy somehow feels like it lives on, bringing us all back together again, inspiring us to live life the way he did. I am grateful for that. And so, on behalf of the entire filmmaking team, I’d like to express our heartbreak at James’ passing, and our joy to have been so lucky to know him.

Mason Gooding serves as an executive producer on The Gates, alongside Andy Dube, Michael Leon Cassutt, John Harris, J. Todd Harris, David Gendron, Ali Jazayeri, Viviana Zarragoitia, and Kamala Avila-Salmon. Nancy Leopardi, Ross Kohn, and Gary Glushon produced the film.

What did you think of the trailer for The Gates? Are you hoping to catch this James Van Der Beek movie on the big screen? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Van Der Beek also has a recurring role in the upcoming Prime Video series Elle, which is a prequel to the Legally Blonde movies. It’s set to premiere on July 1st.

Last year, Deadline broke the news that Oscar-winning Juno writer Diablo Cody, who has also written the genre films Jennifer’s Body and Lisa Frankenstein, would be producing Forbidden Fruits, which marks the feature directorial debut of Meredith Alloway and is an adaptation of the Lily Houghton stage play Of the Women Came the Beginning of Sin, and Through Her We All Die. The film has secured a U.S. and Canadian distribution deal with Independent Film Company and the Shudder streaming service, and IFC is planning a March 27, 2026 theatrical release. With that date right around the corner, a full trailer for the film has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

Lili Reinhart (Hustlers), Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Victoria Pedretti (You), Alexandra Shipp (Barbie) and newcomer Emma Chamberlain star in the film, which has the following synopsis:

In Forbidden FruitsFree Eden employee Apple secretly runs a witchy femme cult in the basement of the mall store after hours – with fellow fruits Cherry and Fig. But when new hire Pumpkin challenges their performative sisterhood, the women are forced to face their own poisons or succumb to a bloody fate. Alloway wrote the screenplay with Houghton.

Producers and Distribution

Diablo Cody is producing Forbidden Fruits with Mason Novick, Trent Hubbard, and Mary Anne Waterhouse. Charlie Traisman and Katherine Romans of Madhouse Films and Casey Durant and Rachel Douglas of Range serve as executive producers.

Scott Shooman, the Head of AMC Networks’ Films Group, had this to say about the distribution deal: “We are thrilled to join forces with the creative minds behind Forbidden Fruits. Meredith Alloway and Lily Houghton delivered a bewitching script that struck us as a project we felt deeply compelled to onboard early and ensure a theatrical release. With one of the brightest and most hotly anticipated cast line ups, Forbidden Fruits is gearing up to be a must see in 2026.” Alloway added, “I’m so grateful to have found a home for Forbidden Fruits with IFC Films, a studio who continually encourages filmmakers to experiment, hone their voice, and play within the medium. IFC Films has produced and distributed so many films that have directly inspired me over the years. The team has gifted me creative freedom and support in every step of the process, down to advocating for a theatrical release — a true gift to any filmmaker. This cast of incredible artists has exceeded my wildest expectations. As a true fan of all of their work, it’s an absolute thrill to see them bring these characters to life. I can’t wait for the world to see the way they shine through Forbidden Fruits.

Back in 2023, we heard that Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss would be launching a new production company with Gary Hamilton (so the company is appropriately called Simmons/Hamilton Productions), and the first project they had given the greenlight was a shark thriller called Deep Water – with Deep Blue Sea director Renny Harlin attached to take the helm of the film! That film has since made its way through production, and Magenta Light Studios, the distributor behind Strange Darling, is planning to give it a theatrical release on May 1, 2026. To start building the hype, the teaser trailer has splashed online today and can be seen in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

Scripted by Pete Bridges and Shayne Armstrong & SP Krause, Deep Water centers on an eclectic group of international passengers whose plane, en route from Los Angeles to Shanghai, is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters. The terrified group is forced to work together and overcome their differences if they hope to escape their sinking plane and the frenzy of sharks drawn to the wreckage.

The film stars Aaron Eckhart of Harlin’s The Bricklayer, Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), Molly Wright (Netflix’s True Spirit), Angus Sampson (Mad Max: Fury Road), Kelly Gale (Plane), singer and actor Li Wenhan, who is a member of the Chinese-Korean K-Pop group UNIQ, and Nashi (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms).

Arclight Films’ Ying Ye, Gabba Post’s Neal Kingston, Aristos Films’ Grant Bradley and Dale Bradley, and Nostromo Pictures’ Adrian Guerra and Xavier Parache produced the film, while Brian Beckmann and Ryan Hamilton from Arclight Films serve as executive producers alongside Vladimir Artemenko from Top Film Distribution, as well as Rob Van Norden and Johanna Harlin. Filming took place in New Zealand and Spain, wrapping at the end of 2023.

Statements

Magenta Light Studios’ Bob Yari has said that Deep Water does an incredible job of bringing adventure, suspense and intensity to the screen including one of the most nerve-wracking plane crash scenes ever witnessed on film. It is the kind of movie that is made for the big screen and we are excited to bring it to audiences in theaters this year.

Harlin added, “Deep Water represents the kind of movie I’ve dreamed of making since I grew up loving the ’70s disaster movies. Spectacular action and unforgettable characters who didn’t leave a dry eye in the movie theater. Bob Yari and his Magenta Light team have been the biggest supporters of this project since the beginning, and I’m proud to have a wide theatrical release for a movie that deserves to be seen and heard on the biggest possible number of screens across the country.

The first teaser trailer dropped online two months ago, and now a new teaser trailer has been unveiled. You can check it out in the embed above.

A while back, New Regency went into production on a horror thriller called Psycho Killer, based on a screenplay written by Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Gavin Polone, producer of Zombieland and the Walker-scripted 8MM, was at the helm of the film, with Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Logan Miller (Escape Room) in lead roles and 6’5″+ former professional wrestler James Preston Rogers in the title role. A year has already passed since we heard that the film had earned an R rating for strong bloody violence, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language. We’re finally going to have the chance to see Psycho Killer when Walt Disney Studios / 20th Century brings it to theatres on February 20, 2026 – and in the build-up to that date, a clip has dropped online to introduce us to our “new nightmare,” the film’s Satanic Slasher. You can watch it in the embed above.

Synopsis

Campbell is taking on the role of Jane Thorne, a police officer who makes it her mission to take down a serial killer referred to on the news as the ‘Satanic Slasher,’ following the murder of her state trooper husband. We had previously heard that Miller’s character is Marvin, a goth-type nebbish who works for the mysterious Pendleton in his massive mansion. Pendleton is so mysterious, Deadline didn’t even explain who they were referencing when they dropped that description. In their release date report, they credited Miller with playing the ill-fated state trooper husband… so this movie is so shrouded in mystery, even Deadline is confused.

New Regency produced Psycho Killer with Roy Lee, Walker, Miri Yoon, and Matt Berenson. Constantin Film is co-financing.

A Long Time Coming

Psycho Killer is a project that spent several years in development hell. It first hit the news back in early 2009, when Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst was set to direct. Durst had moved on by late 2010, by which time Eli Roth was planning to produce it with Eric Newman, his co-producer on The Last Exorcism. They eventually moved on as well.

Polone came on board during the Roth and Newman days, and has finally managed to get the film into production. As years went by, a 2007 draft of the screenplay made its way online, so it will be interesting to see if and how things changed during this long journey. I have been looking forward to this movie for sixteen years already, and now that I have seen a trailer for it, I’m even more interested in seeing it.

Do you want to see Psycho Killer? Take a look at the clip, then let us know by leaving a comment below. Here’s a “Tickets on Sale” trailer to take a look at as well:

The February 27, 2026 theatrical release of the slasher sequel Scream 7 is swiftly approaching – but Paramount has revealed that they will be holding special “opening night” screenings on February 26th, while also unveiling a new poster and the TV spot that will be airing during the Super Bowl this weekend. You can watch the TV spot in the embed above, and keep scrolling to hear about the opening night screenings and to check out the new poster. UPDATE: Now that the “Big Game” has come and gone and tickets are on sale, another new poster has been unveiled and can be seen at the bottom of this article!

So Scream 7 has been re-developed, Campbell has signed on to return as franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, back in the lead role, while Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplay for the original Scream, directs the film from a screenplay by 2022’s Scream and Scream VI writer Guy Busick, who crafted the story with his co-writer on the fifth and sixth films, James Vanderbilt. (Vanderbilt is also a producer on the most recent sequels.)

Cast and Synopsis

Neve Campbell is joined in the cast by Isabel May of the Yellowstone prequel 1883, who has signed on to play Sidney’s daughter; Mckenna Grace of the Ghostbusters franchise, Grace’s Ghostbusters co-star Celeste O’Connor, Gen V‘s Asa Germann, The Fabelmans‘ Sam Rechner, Pitch Perfect‘s Anna Camp, Riverdale‘s Mark Consuelos, fellow franchise star Courteney Cox, who reprises the role of reporter / author Gale Weathers, Joel McHale (Community) as Sidney’s husband Mark Evans, and Ethan Embray (The Devil’s Candy).

Opening Night

In addition to regular theatrical engagements that evening, the event will feature one special show in participating IMAX locations and at theatres across the country, including Dolby Cinema, 4DX, SCREENX, MX4D and exhibitors’ proprietary premium large formats, including Cinemark XD.

“We’re excited to give our most devoted Scream fans the first opportunity to experience the latest chapter of this iconic franchise on the biggest screens, in the most immersive way,” said Paramount Pictures Head of Domestic Distribution Shaun Barber.

“Back for round 2, b*tch?”

The original Ready or Not was a welcome surprise for horror fans with one of the most batsh*t endings that could also satisfy viewers. Samara Weaving returns and finds her character back to play a new game with some powerful entities. Kathryn Newton joins the fray with Elijah Wood and Sarah Michelle Gellar adding to the stacked cast. Searchlight Pictures has just released a new trailer along with a very busy new poster.

Ready or Not refresher

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are part of a filmmaking collective (and production company) called Radio Silence, which they formed with Justin Martinez and Chad Villella in 2011. Ready or Not was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Weaving took on the role of Grace, a young woman who is invited on the night of her wedding by her new husband’s rich, eccentric family to participate in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival. Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy have written the script for the sequel.

Weaving is returning for the follow-up and is joined in the cast by Kathryn Newton (who worked with the directors on Abigail), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings), Shawn Hatosy (The Faculty), Néstor Carbonell (Lost), Kevin Durand (also from Abigail), legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg, Kara Wooten (Revival), Juan Pablo Romero (Please, After You), Varun Saranga (Wynonna Earp), Masa Lizdek (Simulant), Nadeem Umar-Khitab (Wedding Season), Daniel Beirne (Ginny & Georgia), Antony Hall (Run the Burbs), and Olivia Cheng (Warrior).

Here’s the synopsis: Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace (Samara Weaving) discovers she’s reached the next level of the nightmarish game — and this time with her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world. Four rival families are hunting her for the throne, and whoever wins rules it all.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come earned an R rating with strong bloody violence, gore, pervasive language and brief drug use.

Nina Kiri played the character Alma on 28 episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, and now she has the lead role in a horror film called Undertone, which is stirring up a lot of buzz. A24 will be bringing the film to theatres on March 26th, and the hype is building. The first trailer dropped online at 3 a.m. four weeks ago, and now a second trailer has arrived online – also at 3 a.m. You can watch the second trailer in the embed above.

Writer/director Ian Tuason made his feature debut with this project after several years of making short films – and Undertone impressed the folks at Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster so much, Tuason has already been hired to make the next Paranormal Activity movie! On the other hand, JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray was not impressed with the movie when he caught a screening at the Sundance Film Festival. You can read his 5/10 review at THIS LINK.

Synopsis

Coming our way from Slaterverse Pictures, Black Fawn Films, and KINO Studios, The Undertone follows the host of an ‘all-things-creepy’ podcast, who moves into her dying mother’s house to be her primary caregiver. When her podcast is sent 10 audio recordings of a young pregnant couple experiencing paranormal noises, she realizes the woman’s story is a mirror of her own and each new recording scratches at her sanity, drawing her into a fate she cannot escape.

Kiri’s character Evy is the only on-camera speaking role in the entire film, but Adam DiMarco, Michèle Duquet, Keana Lyn Bastidas, and Jeff Yung are also in the cast.

Here’s the official synopsis: The host of a popular paranormal podcast becomes haunted by terrifying recordings mysteriously sent her way. So much of the film relies on the sound design that Tuason has described it as a “found audio” movie rather than a “found footage” movie.

Statements

Tuason previously provided the following statement: “With Undertone, I’m crafting a horror experience that doesn’t just evoke fear—it engulfs you in it, using immersive sound design to make silence as terrifying as the unknown. Inspired by my own experience as a caregiver, the film explores how the stories we tell ourselves of fear, guilt, and isolation, can become the real horrors that haunt us.

The film was produced by Dan Slater and Cody Calahan, with Tuason serving as an executive producer alongside Chad Archibald, Daril Fannin, Brit MacRae, Anthony Eu, Douglas Lee, Al Akdari, Charles Bern, Mathew Sterling, and David Sproat.

Calahan said, “We’re always on the lookout for projects that stand out and have a meaningful story to tell. Ian has a truly unique vision, breaking free from tradition to create a horror experience that’s as bold as it is unnerving.” Slater added, “In an oversaturated market, Undertone will punch through the noise with its raw, unfiltered approach to fear, proving that true horror comes from a director willing to open up personally and take full creative control. We’re thrilled to help bring his voice to the screen.

A press release noted that this production marks the beginning of a multi-film collaboration between KINO Studios and Black Fawn Films, with their plan being to make multiple horror and thriller films together. Daril Fannin, who launched KINO Studios with Brit MacRae and is the company’s CEO, said that Undertone is “an unsettling, deeply psychological horror that lingers long after the credits roll. With Nina Kiri as our lead, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect actor to bring this terrifying tale to life.

We’ve been hearing rumblings of a reboot of the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes franchise for a long time. Seventeen years, in fact. Now, after attempts by the duo behind the internet web series Ask a Ninja and filmmaker Dustin Ferguson to make a new movie were set aside, a new entry in the franchise, titled Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, has finally made its way through production and is set to receive a theatrical release courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment. We don’t know when that release is going to happen, but we do know there’s going to be a pre-release screening aboard the historic USS Midway Museum on February 20th! Information can be found at THIS LINK. In anticipation of the screening, a teaser trailer has dropped online and can be seen in the embed above.

Cast and Background

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence is being referred to as a reboot simply because it’s the first Killer Tomatoes movie to come along in more than thirty years, but the cast list we first saw a couple months ago makes it clear that this is actually a sequel to the existing films. Released in 1978, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was followed by Return of the Killer Tomatoes! in 1988, Killer Tomatoes Strike Back! in 1991, and Killer Tomatoes Eat France! in 1992. The sequels (and the animated series, which ran for two seasons, from 1990 to 1991) brought in John Astin as the villainous Professor Mortimer Gangreen (a.k.a. Dr. Putrid T. Gangreen), and Astin reprises the role in the new film!

Directed by David Ferino (Nocturnally Yours) from a screenplay by former franchise star J. Stephen Peace and Costa Dillon, who crafted the story for the original film and returned to co-write all of the sequels, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence is said to pit the eternal power of nature against AI’s best and brightest.

Astin is joined in the cast by Dan Bakkedahl (Veep) as Wilbur Finletter, a character played by J. Stephen Peace in the previous films; David Koechner (Anchorman) as the U.S. president’s Press Secretary, Daniel Roebuck (The Munsters) as the admiral burdened by 50 years of burying the truth, Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier) as the rampage’s first victim, Paul Bates (Coming to America) as a loopy “disguise expert,” Samantha Bailey (The Listening) as Kate Patel, “genius” CEO of VegIntel and inventor of “MyTomato” – the “O.I.” solution to all the fears that AI can’t fix; Joshua Poon (Bad Boys), who ensures that the world experiences every slimy moment as The Influencer; and Vernee Watson (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) as a tech specialist whose down-home instincts anchor the team of “Tomato Guardians,” along with Runaway Train Oscar nominee Eric Roberts, Myrna Velasco (Star Wars: Resistance) as Marina Sifuentes, an FVI (Federal Vegetable Investigator) agent; and Noor Razooky (The Old Man) as Angela, the marine biologist who first discovers that tomatoes are acting suspicious (again). Also in the the cast is Zachary Roozen (Romeo and Juliet Killers), who plays Chad Finletter, a character first portrayed by Anthony Starke in Return of the Killer Tomatoes.

W. Finletter Films and Killer Tomatoes Entertainment partnered with Atomic Toybox Entertainment (Michael Polis) and IVC/Olas Media (Chad Peace, Juan Hernandez, and Anthony Aslofi) to oversee the production of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, with Polis and Roger M. Mayer producing. J. Stephen Peace and Costa Dillon served as executive producers.

USS Midway

The USS Midway is a retired aircraft carrier, decommissioned in 1992, that is now a museum ship at the USS Midway Museum in San Diego, California. The pre-release screening of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence is being held there because some scenes were filmed on the ship.

For a long time, even up through its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, director Jan Komasa’s upcoming psychological thriller was going by the title Good Boy… but then, a certain dog movie came along and stole the thunder of that title, so Komasa’s movie is now heading out into the world with the title Heel. Magnolia Pictures will be giving the film a theatrical and On Demand release March 6th – and today, a trailer has dropped online, along with a poster and a batch of images. The trailer can be viewed in the embed above and the poster and images can be found at the bottom of this article.

Cast and Synopsis

A Polish filmmaker who has previously directed the likes of Corpus Christi, Warsaw 44, and Suicide Room, Komasa made his English-language debut with Heel, working from a screenplay by Bartek Bartosik and Naqqash Khalid. The film stars Golden Globe winner Stephen Graham (Adolescence), Oscar nominee Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie), Anson Boon (Pistol), and Kit Rakusen (Jay Kelly).

Here’s the synopsis: From Academy Award nominated director Jan Komasa, HEEL is a twisted thriller that follows 19-year-old hooligan Tommy (Anson Boon), who revels in a life of drugs, parties, and violence. One night, on a bender with his reckless friends, he becomes separated from the group and is abducted by an unknown figure (Stephen Graham). Though he is no stranger to inflicting violence, he is enraged and horrified when he wakes to find himself chained in the basement of the isolated suburban family home of Chris (Graham), his wife Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough), and their young son Jonathan (Kit Rakusen). The family sets out to reform Tommy’s unruly behavior, forcing him to comply with their relentless mind games or seek escape at any cost.

Komasa earned his Academy Award nomination with Corpus Christi, which was in the running for Best International Feature Film.

Apparently this is Sophie Turner Day! Earlier, we shared an image of Turner in a wardrobe test for her role as Lara Croft in the upcoming Prime Video Tomb Raider TV series, looking pretty exactly how I remember the character looking when she first turned up back in the ’90s, and now a trailer has been released for the Gothic horror film The Dreadful, which has Turner in a lead role and is set to receive a theatrical and digital release on February 20th. You can check it out in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

For fifty-nine episodes, Turner played the role of Sansa Stark on the hit series Game of Thrones. For sixty-two episodes, Kit Harington played the role of Jon Snow on that same show. Turner and Harington reteamed to star in The Dreadful, which is coming our way from writer/director Natasha Kermani, who has previously directed the thriller Shattered, the sci-fi drama Imitation Girl, and the horror film Lucky, as well as multiple short films and a segment of the horror anthology V/H/S/85.

The story is set against the backdrop of the War of the Roses, which took place from 1455 to 1487 (and has nothing to do with the 1989 dark comedy). It follows Anne (Turner) and her sinister mother-in-law Morwen, who live a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society. But when a man (Harington) from their past returns, he sets off a sequence of horrifying events that become a turning point for Anne.

Marcia Gay Harden, who won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in the 2000 film Pollock, plays Morwen. Laurence O’Fuarain (The Gentlemen) and Jonathan Howard (Godzilla: King of the Monsters) are also in the cast.

“A Bit Weird”

Turner is producing the movie alongside Redwire Pictures/Tunnel’s Luke Daniels, Greg Lauritano of Black Magic, and Storyboard Media’s Patrick Hibler, Lucas Jarach, Adam G. Simon, and Bull Blumenthal.

Given that their Games of Thrones characters were siblings, Harington has said that it felt “a bit weird” for them to be playing love interests in The Dreadful. He told E! News, “It was slightly embarrassing, having to get on an apple box to kiss her because she’s about a foot taller than me. But other than that, my dignity was pretty intact. It was a good chance to be with her again and work together. What was lovely is that we got on set together and our friendship completely ignited again. It felt like being with family. It really did.

The film has been rated R for violence/bloody images and a sexual reference.

Are you excited to see Sophie Turner and Kit Harington working on the same project again, this time starring in a horror film with Marcia Gay Harden? Take a look at the trailer for The Dreadful, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Bride of Frankenstein remake The Bride! unveils a full trailer https://www.joblo.com/the-bride-trailer/ https://www.joblo.com/the-bride-trailer/#respond Thu, 15 Jan 2026 17:16:25 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=880384 A full trailer has been released for director Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride!, a remake of the classic The Bride of Frankenstein

The post Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Bride of Frankenstein remake The Bride! unveils a full trailer appeared first on JoBlo.

]]>

A couple of years ago, word leaked out that Maggie Gyllenhaal was set to write and direct a film called The Bride!, a new take on the concept of the 1935 classic The Bride of Frankenstein (watch it HERE). Once thought to be set up at the Netflix streaming service, this one is actually happening at Warner Bros., and the studio has set the film for a theatrical release on March 6, 2026 (after pushing it back from last October). We saw a teaser trailer for the film a few months ago, and now a full trailer has made its way online to give us a longer look at the unique vision Gyllenhaal has brought to this project. You can check it out in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

Maggie Gyllenhaal has assembled a strong cast for the film that includes Peter Sarsgaard, Penelope Cruz, Annette Bening, Julianne Hough, John Magaro, Jeannie Berlin, and her brother Jake Gyllenhaal, with Jessie Buckley as The Bride and Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s Monster. The Bride! has the following synopsis: A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement. Bening plays Dr. Euphronius. Sarsgaard has denied the rumors that the movie is a musical, but also admitted that there are some dance routines.

This isn’t a Universal project, but it wouldn’t be the first Bride of Frankenstein remake to be made by a different company. In 1985, Columbia Pictures brought us another movie simply called The Bride, which starred Sting as Baron Charles Frankenstein, Jennifer Beals as Eva (the bride) and Clancy Brown as Viktor (the monster). A few years ago, it was announced that Scarlett Johansson was going to star in a similar project called Bride for A24 and Apple, but that still hasn’t made it into production.

Gyllenhaal’s film has been rated R for strong/bloody violent content, sexual content/nudity and language.

Inspired by a tattoo

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Gyllenhaal revealed that she was inspired to watch The Bride of Frankenstein for the first time after seeing a tattoo of the character on someone’s forearm. After she watched the movie, she was left wanting to know more about the Bride… so she wrote the screenplay for this movie to get answers. She told EW, “I watched the movie, and I realized she doesn’t speak. She’s only in it for five minutes at most. She’s still formidable, but I thought there’s a problem with this concept. It’s called the Bride of Frankenstein, but it’s really Frankenstein. So, who is she? … What about her? You can’t just bring someone back from the dead and expect everything’s gonna go okay.

A while back, we learned that Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place Part II and A Quiet Place: Day One) was set to star in The Monster, a horror thriller that Darren Lynn Bousman would be directing from a screenplay by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, the writers of Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane. It was announced soon after that Lauren LaVera – who played heroine Sienna in Terrifier 2 and the recently released Terrifier 3 – was joining Hounsou in the cast. The project made its way through production at the end of 2024 and secured distribution through Paramount’s Republic Pictures under a new title, Twisted. Now, it’s set to receive a digital release on February 6th, and a trailer has dropped online to give us a glimpse of what sort of insanity Bousman has in store for us this time around. You can check it out in the embed above.

Cast and Synopsis

Hounsou and LaVera are joined in the cast by Alicia Witt (Longlegs), Gina Philips (Jeepers Creepers), Neal McDonough (Band of Brothers), Mia Healey (The Wilds), Michael Lombardi (The Deuce), David Call (Insidious: The Red Door), Victor Del Rio (Precognito), Cedric Benjamin (Luke Cage), Zac Jaffee (Hustlers), Renés Rivera (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Hari Bhaskar (First Shift), Kristina Krasniqi (Celebrity Ghost Stories), and rapper Jacob Lukas Anderson, a.k.a. Prof.

Details on the characters haven’t been revealed, but we do know that the story follows two millennials who make quick money by leasing incredible New York City apartments they don’t own to people who don’t know they are being scammed. The con works brilliantly until they run into an apartment owner with a dark secret who flips the game on them.

Statements

Lee Nelson and David Tish of Envision Media Arts produced the film with Saw franchise producer Mark Burg. Lukas Behnken serves as executive producer, while Jonathan M. Black and Lauren Black co-produce. Bousman has a good deal of experience working with Burg, as he’s best known for directing Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, and Spiral: From the Book of Saw. He has also directed Repo! The Genetic Opera, Mother’s Day, 11-11-11, The Devil’s Carnival, The Barrens, Abattoir, St. Agatha, Death of Me, The Cello, and more.

Burg had this to say about Twisted when it was first announced: “Darren sent me a script with incredible twists and turns and the opportunity to work with him and the brilliant Djimon Hounsou. This movie will be amazing and scare the hell out of audiences worldwide.“ Tish and Nelson added, “We love finding new ways into horror and when we read The Monster we knew it was special. With Djimon and the minds behind one of horror’s biggest franchises, genre fans are in for something fresh and scary.
