Chris

Last weekend was pretty heavy-duty for new releases, with Wuthering HeightsGOAT, and Crime 101 all vying for box office dollars. In the end, Wuthering Heights dominated the holiday weekend, but its four-day opening was a bit less than industry folks expected, and GOAT, surprisingly, was just a few million off from the top spot itself. As there are very few major new releases coming out this week, it seems like Sony’s GOAT has a good chance of claiming the top spot, relegating Wuthering Heights to second place.

One of the reasons it should easily come in first place is that family audiences have been somewhat underserved, so expect it to make about $20 million over the weekend. Wuthering Heights should come in second place with about $15 million, as it strikes me as the kind of movie that was front-loaded, especially given that it did a lot of its business on Valentine’s Day.

As for third place — this is where it gets interesting. There are three movies opening wide this weekend, but none of them are expected to set the world on fire. There’s the faith-based sequel I Can Only Imagine 2, the horror film Psycho Killer, and the Glen Powell-led How to Make a Killing.

Of the three, I Can Only Imagine 2 is the only one that has a real shot at third place, with it likely to gross about $12 million, which would be good for a faith-driven movie, as the genre’s box office results have been mixed as of late — with a couple of well-received examples like Ordinary Angels underperforming. The original I Can Only Imagine was a big hit, but it also came out at a time when there was less faith-based content in theaters. Now, with companies like Angel Studios, there is much more.

Fourth place will likely go to Amazon/MGM’s Crime 101, with about $8 million. Fifth will almost certainly go to holdover Send Help, which should make about $6 million, as it has shown tremendous legs at the box office. Psycho Killer, which comes from the same studio as Send Help — 20th Century Films — isn’t getting much of a build-up, with the theatrical run seeming like little more than promo for its eventual Hulu release. Meanwhile, the Glen Powell-led How to Make a Killing isn’t expected to make much more than $4–5 million, making it another soft result for the star, whose box office track record has been mixed.

Our predictions:

  1. GOAT: $20 million
  2. Wuthering Heights: $15 million
  3. I Can Only Imagine 2: $12 million
  4. Crime 101: $8 million
  5. Send Help: $6 million

Weekend Box Office: Wuthering Heights takes the top spot but opens (slightly) under expectations https://www.joblo.com/weekend-box-office-wuthering-heights/ https://www.joblo.com/weekend-box-office-wuthering-heights/#respond Sun, 15 Feb 2026 17:31:13 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=887511 The $34 million opening is solid for a period epic, but given the expensive marketing hype, it should have opened higher.

As expected, Emerald Fennell’s controversial, loose adaptation of Wuthering Heights easily topped the box office this weekend. Yet its $34.8 million three-day opening is being viewed as somewhat underwhelming. Industry insiders had projected a $50 million four-day haul over the President’s Day holiday, but the film will be lucky to hit $40 million — which is exactly what we predicted.

Now, a $34 million debut still sounds terrific for a period epic with a relatively reasonable $80 million production budget. However, reports suggest the marketing spend may have exceeded the production cost (some estimate it at $85 million). Add in two major stars — Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi — and many expected a bigger splash.

While the film likely benefited from solid Valentine’s Day turnout, its B CinemaScore suggests mixed word-of-mouth. The big question now: will it have legs next weekend?

Sony’s GOAT Nips at the Heels

Sony’s animated feature GOAT opened strong with $26 million, and its four-day total is expected to come within a few million of Wuthering Heights. Many believe it could leapfrog the period romance by next weekend, especially with a relatively quiet frame ahead.

The film’s stylish animation — reminiscent of Spider-Verse and KPop Demon Hunters — appears to be resonating with younger audiences.

Crime 101

Crime 101 Delivers Solid Counterprogramming

Amazon/MGM’s Crime 101 debuted to a solid $15.1 million, landing on the higher end of expectations. The Don Winslow adaptation is benefiting from strong reviews (including ours), though it faces a long road toward recouping its reported $90 million budget.

That said, Amazon likely views the film as a long-term streaming asset rather than a pure theatrical play.

Send Help Holds Exceptionally Well

Sam Raimi’s Send Help posted one of the weekend’s most impressive holds. In its third frame, it grossed $8.9 million — just a 1% drop from last weekend — bringing its total to just shy of $50 million. That’s an excellent result for an R-rated thriller.

Meanwhile, Kevin James’ Solo Mio dipped only 9% to $6.4 million, pushing its total to $16.9 million. A strong hold for Angel Studios.

Family and Genre Titles Continue Steady Runs

Zootopia 2 added another $3.7 million, bringing its total to $419 million.

Avatar: Fire and Ash landed in eighth place with $3.3 million and is just shy of $400 million total — a milestone it should cross next weekend.

Iron Lung is beginning to wind down with $3.1 million, bringing its impressive total to $37.2 million.

Rounding out the top ten, Luc Besson’s Dracula held solidly, dropping only 32% to $3 million, with a $9 million total — making it one of Vertical Entertainment’s higher-grossing releases.

Specialty Releases: Mixed Results

Briarcliff’s release of Gore Verbinski’s Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die (which we loved) earned a decent $3.6 million on 1,610 screens.

It outperformed Cold Storage, starring Liam Neeson and Joe Keery, which opened outside the top ten with $1.1 million.

Interestingly, Neon’s Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie pulled in $1.2 million on just 365 screens — a strong per-screen average and a notable specialty success (perExhibitor Relations).

Chris

After a remarkably slow few weeks, the box office is about to get a shot in the arm with not one but three big-budget studio releases hitting theaters this weekend. This is just in time for Valentine’s Day, which coincides with Presidents’ Day this year. The three films each target a different demo and are expected to perform well.

The first is Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights. Starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, this is one of the most anticipated movies of the year for some, although reviews have been all over the place—some love it, some hate it. I was mixed-to-positive in my review (read it here), but I think audiences are still going to turn out in droves to see it. I’m expecting it to make $40 million.

Sony Animation’s GOAT, which features the voice of Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin (check out our interview with him here), is also opening and should perform well, as family audiences have been underserved lately. That’s why Zootopia 2, which opened months ago, is still kicking around the top 10. GOAT should easily crack the $30 million mark.

Third place should go to Amazon/MGM’s Crime 101, starring Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, and Mark Ruffalo. Crime dramas are hit or miss at the box office, but I’m hoping this Michael Mann–style movie (based on the novella by Don Winslow) does well. I expect about $12 million or so.

The Liam Neeson– and Joe Keery–led Cold Storage should be able to crack the top five with about $7 million. Gore Verbinski’s Good Luck, Send Help, Don’t Die (which we loved) is also opening, but I’m not sure it has the box office buildup to make the top five. Instead, I expect Sam Raimi’s sleeper hit, Send Help, to take fourth place with about $6 million.

Here are my predictions:

  1. Wuthering Heights: $40 million
  2. GOAT: $30 million
  3. Crime 101: $12 million
  4. Cold Storage: $7 million
  5. Send Help: $6 million

Plot: A thief with a strict code of conduct and a mysterious past (Chris Hemsworth) is pursued by a down-and-out detective (Mark Ruffalo), while courting an ally in a high-end insurance broker (Halle Berry). Meanwhile, the thief is being hunted by an unhinged enforcer (Barry Keoghan).

Review: Crime 101 is a project that garnered a lot of buzz even before production began. It’s a script that was the object of a bidding war and Amazon MGM Studios would walk away as the victor. Thankfully, Amazon will be giving the film a theatrical run and not just dumping it on Prime Video.

Now that movie is about to release, the early reactions throw around the comparisons to Michael Mann’s Heat a lot. The similarities to the crime epic are definitely there, but there’s also dialogue in the movie that pays tribute to films like Bullitt and The Thomas Crown Affair. And that’s what you get a sense of — Crime 101 is attempting to be that classic kind of genre picture, but for a modern age.

Crime 101 review

Writer/Director Bart Layton is pretty successful with having one foot in the past and his other foot in the present. This is a “meat and potatoes” cops and robbers film, but much of it also relies on advanced security tech, social media and tracking methods. The two biggest aspects that are unavoidable to compare to Heat are the lengthy focus on the characters’ lives and the dominant setting of Los Angeles. In fact, the title itself has a double meaning that ties closely to a very Los Angeles element.

While the movie does an admirable job of following in the footsteps of Heat, it’s understandable that it doesn’t quite reach that bar. Even at 2 hours and 20 minutes, it feels like the movie has 20 more minutes that it wanted to show, but was either afraid to, chose not to or it was trimmed down. There are many good story elements in Crime 101 that I found myself interested in seeing more of, but the film couldn’t quite find the right balance and some of it was shoved to the side to move the plot forward.

Hemsworth has an interesting kind of role that I couldn’t quite put my finger on until thinking about it later. He’s a thief that has two sides to him. Professionally, he’s a well-oiled machine. He’s well put-together of course (the movie showcases his physique early on). He’s charismatic and confident when he’s on. However, when he’s trying to function in a personal life, he gets immensely awkward and becomes a complete mess, but not for the lack of trying.

Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo is very reliable in his role as the detective who has trouble playing with others — both at his job and at home. Of all the leads in this film, his story is probably the most cliched, but Ruffalo’s charm makes it work. His partner in the film is played by Corey Hawkins, who I loved as Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton and I’ve been hoping to see him more and more in projects, so his supporting role was a pleasant surprise.

Crime 101 review

Berry makes a lot of her role when, on surface level, it doesn’t sound as exciting as the others. However, her civillian arc would thicken as the movie goes along. She and Hemsworth play off each other well as their characters connect in various ways and the same can be said with her and Ruffalo in their scenes. You really find yourself rooting for her in her character’s storyline.

Then, we come to Barry Keoghan. While he made a brief appearance playing The Joker in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, here, he REALLY gets to let loose. In every scene he’s in, he’s having a ball playing an unhinged psycho enforcer for the same crime boss that Hemsworth serves. Keoghan is that kind of wild card character that, when he shows up in a scene, the mood immediately turns tense as you don’t know what he’s capable of and what’s going through his mind.

This movie was a lot more character-based than I was expecting. A ton of time is devoted to the private lives of the characters and how their intanglement in all the heist cases affect their actions going forward. There are some timely themes about classism and how financial security plays a part in mental stability, which was a nice angle to explore. And the action, while more subdued than I was hoping in regards to carnage, is still effectively intense and the chase scenes are incredibly thrilling. It can really be seen that the filmmaker is a fan of the aforementioned Steve McQueen movies they referenced.

Frankly, the main thing that really brought the movie down a bit for me was the ending. There are a ton of seeds that were planted and things set in motion to explode for the finale and Crime 101 just didn’t stick the landing enough for me. I am not familiar with the source material it was based on, so it may be faithful, but it just didn’t do anything for me and I left the movie with a bit of a dissatisfied feeling, despite enjoying everything before it for the most part. I do recommend it for crime fans but it falls just short of something great.

Set to be released in theaters and IMAX everywhere on February 13, Crime 101 is a suspense thriller heist film starring Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, and Mark Ruffalo. It’s based on the novel by Don Winslow and directed by Bart Layton.

I was lucky enough to attend the premiere of the film at Regal in New York City last Monday, and of course, with any of these types of releases that I have the pleasure of covering for JoBlo, I went in as blind as possible — and I was absolutely floored by this movie.

Released by MGM/Amazon, you might think this could have been a movie sent straight to streaming on Prime Video, but the studio made the right decision by making this a theatrical experience. Key word: experience.

This film is easily the first great movie of 2026, and quite honestly, I loved it more than any film I watched in 2025. I don’t like giving movies a 10 out of 10 rating because the cinema snob in me hates doing that. I was actively trying to find reasons not to give this film a 10, and as I was watching it, I couldn’t find anything that hinders the movie in any way.

It’s suspenseful throughout. You root for all the characters (which will absolutely make you feel conflicted). The movie unfolds properly as it progresses, and even though it isn’t wall-to-wall action, when the action scenes hit, they’re cranked past eleven. The film also has one of the most satisfying endings I can remember.

So I hope you enjoyed this little mini-review, because I’m urging everyone to see it on February 13.

Chris Hemsworth & Halle Berry Interview

After having one of the best theatrical experiences I can remember, I had the pleasure of sitting down with two of the film’s main stars, Chris Hemsworth (who saw my tweet reaction to the movie and shared it on his social media) and Halle Berry.

We talked about the movie, the action, the cars, and of course their characters. It was wonderful speaking with the two of them, and in the interview you can absolutely see how much fun they had making this film.

And yes… I had to address the elephant in the room. With Avengers: Doomsday coming out in December, I had to ask whether we might see Thor and Storm together, especially since most of the original X-Men are returning for the massive comic book team-up.

Bart Layton on Theatrical vs. Streaming

Due to scheduling conflicts, I wasn’t able to sit down with director Bart Layton in person, but we made it work via Zoom.

Not only did we talk about the film’s cast and action sequences, but we also discussed the importance of releasing this movie in theaters rather than sending it straight to streaming.

Crime 101

Crime 101‘s screenplay had already been buzzing around Hollywood as a great crime story before a frame was even shot. The film was penned by Barry Layton and Peter Straughan, with Layton also serving as director. Layton’s most recent film was 2018’s American Animals, while Straughan earned major accolades for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Conclave, the latter of which earned him the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Chris Hemsworth stars in the film with Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte, Tate Donovan, Monica Barbaro, and Corey Hawkins.

What are people saying about it?

While the script was buzzing, after the trailer was released, the film started drawing a lot of comparisons to Michael Mann’s Heat. And the movie is now having advanced screenings, so what’s the early word on it? Our Jason St. Germain was at the premiere and posted on our social media, “#Crime101 is the first GREAT film of 2026. @AmazonMGMStudio was smart by releasing this into theaters and not to streaming. STACKED cast. The film is suspenseful throughout with a VERY satisfying ending. You NEED to see @Crime101Movie on February 13”

Here are some more X reactions:

For the rest, we go to Letterboxd. A user named moviemattk posted his reaction,
“It’s easy to compare this to Michael Mann’s 1995 film Heat, as Crime 101 is another cat-and-mouse thriller between an obsessed detective and a calculating criminal. It sprinkles in enough changes to be its own thing, but still follows the formula a little too closely. I can’t say much due to the review embargo, but there is elements of sauce here!

Also, Barry Keoghan really has a lock on playing the sniveling little freak!”

Another user named Jamie rated Crime 101 4 stars and said, “This was a fun throwback to those high octane 90s and 2000s thrillers that we rarely see anymore and I commend Layton for reviving this type of film back on the big screen. Flawed but very well done.”

A user named Jordan gave the movie 3 1/2 stars, but thought it treaded just a little too close to Heat,
“A solid slick crime thriller that I for the most part enjoyed. Nice color grading and full of movie stars that just do their thing. I guess my biggest gripe with the film is that it is a tad cliche.”

A user with the amusing name, Dave Decayed, would also give the movie 4 stars and say,
“A super slick LA heist movie that never lets up from the dizzying opening. I’m sure some people will dismiss it because maybe it doesn’t reach the towering heights of ‘Heat‘, but it’s a solidly crafted thriller with great performances: Halle Berry is fantastic – Hollywood you did this woman wrong after her Oscar win!! Bart Layton signed my American Animals poster so I’m flying high”

A user named Ian would rate the movie with 3 stars, but his review leaned on some disappointment,
“This has a lot of interesting ideas and a lot of storylines that I felt were going to make for an exciting and engaging crime film. Unfortunately, by time the credits rolled the different aspects of the film that I thought had an interesting concept to them didn’t develop fully.

The transition from one year to the next often brings chaos, particularly regarding work, family, and holiday-related commitments. As a result, I’ve barely had any time to catch up on movies. Thankfully, hitting the reset button on a new year often brings a restored sense of purpose, and this year I want to watch more movies than last, and I’m craving something that taps into action and thrills. As luck would have it, Amazon MGM Studios hit us with another trailer for Crime 101 over the weekend, and I’m officially excited to see what filmmaker Bart Layton’s latest project brings to the table.

What is Crime 101 about?

Here is the official plot, courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios

“Set against the sun-bleached grit of Los Angeles, Crime 101 weaves the tale of an elusive thief (Chris Hemsworth) whose high-stakes heists unfolding along the iconic 101 freeway have mystified police. When he eyes the score of a lifetime with hopes of this being his final job, his path collides with a disillusioned insurance broker (Halle Berry) who is facing her own crossroads, forcing the two to collaborate. Determined to crack the case, a relentless detective (Mark Ruffalo) closes in on the operation, raising the stakes even higher. As the multimillion-dollar heist approaches, the line between hunter and hunted begins to blur, and all three are forced to confront the cost of their choices–and the realization that there’s no turning back.” In addition to Hemsworth, Ruffalo, and Berry, Crime 101’s cast is rounded out by Barry Keoghan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte, Tate Donovan, Monica Barbaro, and Corey Hawkins.

Crime 101 is adapted by Barry Layton and Peter Straughan, with Layton also serving as director. Layton’s most recent film was 2018’s American Animals, while Straughan earned major accolades for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Conclave, the latter of which earned him the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Crime 101 brings the Heat

The latest trailer for Crime 101 presents a slick, action-packed crime thriller featuring a stunning cast, intense intrigue, nail-biting chase sequences, and witty one-liners. Interestingly, Crime 101 is getting compared to Michael Mann’s Heat, which we all know is a stone-cold classic. If Crime 101 brings even half the thrills of Mann’s 1995 cop drama, we’ll be in business.

Crime 101 releases on February 13, just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Crime 101 and a New Poster

The upcoming Chris Hemsworth crime thriller, Crime 101, was a hot property when it was shopping around for a studio. Amazon MGM ended up picking up the film and a new poster has now been released by the studio. Crime 101 also recently received its rating from the MPA. A new list of ratings from the MPA has dropped in the last week and the upcoming star-studded film would receive an R rating for language throughout, some violence and sexual material/nudity.

Take a gander at the new exclusive IMDb poster below, which highlights its cast and the Los Angeles location, which reinforces the movie’s comparisons to the film Heat.

Previous adaptations of Winslow’s work include 2007’s The Life and Death of Bobby Z and Oliver Stone’s Savages, which Winslow co-wrote with Stone and Shane Salerno. Other adaptations have been circling as well, including an Austin Butler-starring City on Fire.

With comparisons to Michael Mann’s HeatCrime 101 was the subject of a bidding war between Amazon and Netflix back in 2023, with some reports saying it was in the neighborhood of being a $100 million deal. Around that time, Pedro Pascal was also attached alongside Hemsworth. With Amazon coming out ahead, the movie is set for release on February 13.

One of the most stacked casts of next year is in Crime 101, based on the novella of the same name by Don Winslow. Now, we have the trailer ahead of its early 2026 release.

Here is the official plot, as per Amazon MGM Studios: “Set against the sun-bleached grit of Los Angeles, CRIME 101 weaves the tale of an elusive thief (Chris Hemsworth) whose high-stakes heists unfolding along the iconic 101 freeway have mystified police. Amazon, CInemaCon

CinemaCon keeps rolling, folks! Other big-ticket items on display at Amazon‘s CinemaCon panel include Michael B. Jordan’s Thomas Crown Affair. Jordan directs, produces, and stars in the latest version of the story. The project is shooting in London with Bradford Young on the camera. Thomas Crown Affair comes out in 2026.

Meanwhile, Verity is Michael Showalter’s project, starring Anne Hathaway, Josh Hartnett, and Dakota Johnson. Verity is based on It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover’s novel, published in 2018. The CinemaCon crowd saw a trailer with Hathaway playing a famous author and Hartnett as her husband. She’s now paralyzed, and Dakota Johnson is a writer doing her biography. Johnson becomes infatuated with Hartnett, but Hathaway’s Verity might not be paralyzed and might be hiding a dark secret! Dun dun dunnnn!

In Timur Bekmambetov’s Mercy, Chris Pratt is accused of murdering his wife. An AI program called Mercy (Rebecca Ferguson) arrests him, and he has 90 minutes to prove his innocence using camera footage from the city. Chris says Mercy looks like a super high-tech version of Timur’s screen life movies. This aspect of the film could turn people off, but others may love it. It looks unusual. It could be cool. It could be terrible. The jury remains out.

Directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and scripted by Marco Van Belle (Arthur & Merlin), Mercy tells a story “set in the near future when capital crime has increased” and follows “a detective who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.” Chris Pratt (The Electric State) stars alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Dune), Annabelle Wallis (Malignant), and Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country). The film is set to be released on January 23, 2026.

Amazon’s presentation includes Hugh Jackman’s new joint, Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie. What? Let me explain. In the movie, Jackman is a sheep farmer unraveling a murder mystery. Say no more. I’m in! Oh. Do you want more? Okay. The project co-stars Emma Thompson. The film appears family-oriented. To be clear, it’s not animated. It’s giving The Full Monty vibes. There are lots of cute sheep, but they’re CGI and could be voiced by movie stars. Amazon did not reveal this, but the project has a star-studded cast, with Bryan Cranston and Brett Goldstein starring.

Prepare for an education because Amazon is ready to teach you about Crime 101. The latest film from Bart Layton is giving Heat vibes. Chris Hemsworth is a robber like De Niro’s Heat character. He’s pursued by a dogged detective played by Mark Ruffalo. Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan is a psychopathic, stuck-up man. Halle Berry plays an insurance agent. Again, it is very reminiscent of Heat, right down to the LA locale. Crime 101 looks very slick. However, it also seems derivative as it’s done so clearly in the Michael Mann style. Hemsworth, Keoghan, and Berry look great. The jury is out, but it is SO reminiscent of Heat.

Based on the novella by Don Winslow, Crime 101 follows “a series of high level jewelry thefts up and down the Pacific Coast Highway that have gone unsolved for years, mostly because the perpetrator has lived by a strict code he calls ‘Crime 101.’ Police attribute the thefts to the Colombian cartels, but Detective Lou Lubesnick’s gut says it’s the work of just one man. Now the lone-wolf jewel thief is looking for that fabled final last score and Lou breaks all the rules of Crime 101.” The film stars Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Doomsday), Mark Ruffalo (Mickey 17), Barry Keoghan (The Batman), Halle Berry (Never Let Go), Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Corey Hawkins (The Color Purple), and Jennifer Jason Leigh (Poolman).

Our editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray, is in the CinemaCon crowd and says After the Hunt looks provocative, with Andrew Garfield playing a very anti-woke role. In the preview, Garfield’s character gets into an argument with Ayo Edebiri, who accuses him of rape, and Julia Roberts doesn’t know who to believe.  Both have compelling stories, with Garfield saying she’s destroying his career while Edebiri seems to be playing a lot of cards. But Roberts has a lot of darkness in her past, too. Chris says that After the Hunt feels heavy on its critique of cultural wars.

Luca Guadagnino directs After the Hunt, an intense dramatic thriller written by Nora Garrett. Julia Roberts (Leave the World Behind) stars as a college professor who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light. Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Andrew Garfield (We Live in Time), Michael Stuhlbarg (Bones and All), and Chloë Sevigny (Russian Doll) also star in the film, which is slated to hit limited theaters on October 10th before opening wide on October 17th.

Keep it here for more form CinemaCon 2025!

Halle Berry Chris Hemsworth

American Animals director Bart Layton is assembling a new Hollywood dream team as Halle Berry joins Chris Hemsworth for the filmmaker’s upcoming thriller Crime 101. Berry, also known as the Master of Dog Fu (watch John Wick 3 – Parabellum), is fresh off her buddy comedy with Mark Wahlberg, The Union, while her latest horror film, Never Let Go, is lighting up silver screens this month. The Amazon MGM Studios project takes inspiration from Don Winslow‘s short story Crime 101, with Layton planning to release the film in theaters next year.

While plot details remain mysterious, Deadline says Crime 101 contains Heat-like elements. According to the synopsis for Winslow’s novella, the story focuses on a string of high-level jewel heists up and down the Pacific Coast Highway. The crimes have gone unsolved for years, mainly because the perpetrator has lived by a strict code he calls “Crime 101”. Police attribute the thefts to the Colombian cartels. But Detective Lou Lubesnick’s gut says it’s the work of just one man. Now the lone-wolf jewel thief is looking for that fabled final last score, and Lou breaks all the rules of “Crime 101”.

In addition to helming the movie, Layton wrote the script with contributions from Peter Straughhan. Initially, Pedro Pascal landed the role now occupied by Hemsworth, but Pascal dropped the project due to scheduling conflicts. Hemsworth produces alongside his starring role with his producing partner Ben Grayson.

Halle Berry is completing one project after the next following her action-packed performance in 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. In 2020, she played the disgraced MMA fighter Jackie Justice in Bruised, a film she also directed. She followed Bruised with Roland Emmerich’s latest disasterpiece Moonfall, then boarded The Union and Never Let Go. In Never Let Go, directed by Alexandre Aja, Berry plays a mother whose family has been haunted by an evil spirit for years. Their safety and surroundings come into question when one of the children questions if the evil is real.

We’re excited to witness Halle Berry’s on-screen chemistry with Chris Hemsworth for the heist thriller Crime 101. How about you? In the comments section below, let us know if you’re interested in this movie.
