The Dates are Set

Marketing for Avengers: Doomsday started late last year with a couple of teasers released with James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. The teaser trailers and the teaser poster declared December 18 as the release date (complete with a timer counting down with each teaser). Then, last week, the trailer for the much-anticipated Dune: Part Three dropped with its own teaser posters. Dune: Part Three would also advertise December 18 as its release date. While both Marvel Studios and Warner Bros. locked down the date quite some time, the marketing somewhat seals everything for the time being. Now, release dates can always change and the promos can always be revised, but if both movies hold firm…could we have another Barbenheimer on our hands?

Avengers: Dunesday

If we do have another Barbenheimer, the nickname is obvious enough that it’s pretty much already set by Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet. Avengers: Dunesday is sure to be a good competitor to the Barbenheimer phenomenon as both are big sci-fi franchises with large fanbases. When Barbie was announced, it sounded like a cash grab, a la Battleship, but when Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach had their names attached, it aroused more curiosity as it turned out to be something more (complete with getting recognized for awards season). So, the Hasbro property not only had the Barbie toy fans, but moviegoers were now wondering what the film was really going to be. Then, you have Oppenheimer, which really had only one true appeal as a summer movie, and that’s Christopher Nolan. Oppenheimer would have been more at home as a late-year awards contender as a talky historical drama with very little action, but Nolan is associated with grand blockbuster movies. Additionally, he continued his love with the 70 mm IMAX format for Oppenheimer, which gave the film additional appeal. So, Nolan fans and cinema lovers would lovingly flock to Oppenheimer.

With Avengers: Dunesday, you have two franchise entries whose past installments have already raked in a large amount of dough. The first Dune from Denis Villeneuve had to struggle harder as it came out around the time of the pandemic, but Dune: Part Two would be released when theaters were back to full operation and the film would end its run with $715 million globally. Additionally, Dune: Part Two ended on a note that wasn’t exactly a cliffhanger, but an open end, which had fans of the movies and books alike anticipating the follow-up chapter.

For the MCU, the Avengers have been reliable moneymakers. However, with every entry, all the movies that came before it have received some pretty positive receptions on average. After Avengers: Endgame, a debate rages on amongst fans on whether the recent phase of movies were of quality, but the movie-going public has not turned out as often as they used to with earlier solo films. Despite exceptions like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool and Wolverine, the Marvel Universe hasn’t been as consistent with success and movies like The Fantastic Four: First Steps would be discussed as possibilities of the studio finding its footing once again.

Avengers is sure to be a massive hit despite the overall reception of the MCU, but one thing’s for sure: Dune: Part Three will have a slight advantage with exclusive IMAX screenings. Dune was shot with IMAX cameras and secured at least three weeks on the format. The brand saw a huge uptick in business recently, thanks to films like Sinners and F1. The premium format has a premium charge, which may help Dune earn more money despite Avengers playing in adjacent premium screens. IMAX is the one that is establishing its reputation with its giant screen and picture quality. However, Avengers: Doomsday will eventually take advantage of the IMAX screens later on, so sales have the potential to boost.

While the memes won’t be nearly as fun as Barbenheimer since those two films are as far from each other in terms of tone as you can get, sci-fi and action fans will be having an amazing Christmas this year with these two epic franchise titles to choose from.

The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will be one of Marvel’s most star-studded ensembles ever, but it won’t just be an endless stream of cameos. Lewis Pullman, who played Bob/The Sentry in Thunderbolts* and has returned for Doomsday, teased that every character in the film will have their moment.

Lewis Pullman on Avengers: Doomsday

It’s going back to the serum of the human archetypes that our art is built off of,” Pullman told Esquire. “Every character has their moment that builds the dimensions of them. The Russo brothers did that so well. They do not want anyone just sitting in the background. They really took to heart the responsibility of having some of the best actors in the world all together.

He continued, “There’s a lot of really exciting pair-ups that happen. A lot of fans will be really excited. It’s so fun to dream about. What if A and B would work together? Would B and D work together? You get to see a lot of those fantasies come into fruition.” The actor went on to compare the film to ancient epics, but stopped himself from saying too much. “Talking about Marvel is always such a funny dance of saying nothing while still words are coming out of your mouth,” he said.

The Cast of Avengers: Doomsday

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday is vast, with the officially announced cast including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Simi Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy, Lewis Pullman as Bob, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner, Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme, James Marsden as Scott Summers, Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, and Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom.

There are plenty of other actors who are presumed to return, so by the time all is said and done, this might just be one of Marvel’s biggest casts ever. The film is set to hit theaters on December 18.

Chris Hemsworth has been wielding Mjölnir in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for fifteen years, outlasting many of his fellow original Avengers as one of the franchise’s most enduring stars. He’s already set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, and while it might seem like the perfect opportunity for the God of Thunder to take a final bow, Hemsworth has suggested he’s not ready to step away just yet.

Hemsworth on More Thor

While speaking on the SmartLess podcast (via The Playlist), Hemsworth told co-host Sean Hayes that he still has a “couple more times” as Thor beyond Avengers: Doomsday. One of those appearances will come in Avengers: Secret Wars, and there’s always the possibility that Marvel could move forward with Thor 5.

Playing Thor for so long has given Hemsworth the rare chance to explore multiple creative interpretations of the same character across different filmmakers and tones. “It’s been so much fun,” he said. “And what I’ve really enjoyed it—unlike a lot of what the other characters that the [actors] were given, they have had to be pretty consistent— whereas working with Taika Waititi on his films versus Kenneth Branagh with those films and then with the Russos, all [the films] had quite a different sort of tonal opinion.

Hemsworth explained that this variety has kept the role creatively fresh for him over the years, “But [the Russos] also let me try different things. It’s the same with my tattoos, I’d be getting really bored [with] the same thing and having a real need to kind of throw [the performance] in different directions. I was talking to Kevin Feige about it, and he said it’s cool because the audience now expects dramatic turns with the character. And whatever we do next—we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different].

Hemsworth Knows Thor: Love and Thunder Went Too Far

Of course, experimentation can be a double-edged sword. While Thor: Ragnarok successfully reinvented the character with a lighter, comedic tone, its follow-up pushed that approach even further, dividing audiences. Hemsworth acknowledged that the reaction to Thor: Love and Thunder served as a reminder to strike the right balance when evolving a long-running character.

When we made ‘Ragnarok,’ it was quite a twist, with Taika’s [film]. And it was so fun,” he said. “There was a huge appreciation for the shift. And then [with] ‘Love And Thunder,’ it was kind of like a Monty Python sketch, and we took the piss probably a little much, and then there was some backlash. There was this real kind of, ‘Why is he a goofball and why is it like this?’ And, [audiences] violently offended and we were like, ‘Oh, we’re just having fun or trying to try something different.’

Chris Hemsworth will return in Avengers: Doomsday, which will debut on December 18.

Hemsworth and Berry in Crime 101

Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry will soon be hitting theaters in the upcoming action thriller Crime 101. Early reactions have compared it to Heat with its use of the Los Angeles location and the cat-and-mouse game between the cops and robbers. Our Jason St. Germain was at the premiere and posted on our social media, “#Crime101 is the first GREAT film of 2026. @AmazonMGMStudio was smart by releasing this into theaters and not to streaming. STACKED cast. The film is suspenseful throughout with a VERY satisfying ending. You NEED to see @Crime101Movie on February 13.”

Will we see Storm joining the X-Men one more time?

In addition to attending the premiere, Germain also got to sit down with Crime 101 stars Hemsworth and Berry for an interview (Stay tuned for the full interview video to drop next week) and he would inquire about the burning question that has been on fans’ minds since the X-Men had been announced to make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday — will Halle Berry make a return as Storm? Germain stated that he’d be crucified for not asking and when he asked Berry if we will see Storm join the X-Men in the fight, she turned to Hemsworth as he let out a chuckle.

Berry responded with a question towards Hemsworth, “Will they? Will they, Chris? Will they?” She turns to Germain and adds, “He knows…” Hemsworth replied, “Working on it.” The Thor star started to fidget around in his seat and nearly giggled while trying to answer, “We wanna…say yes.” Hemsworth looked to be playing up his nervousness while Berry laughed at his discomfort. When asked if he could make it happen, Hemsworth responded, “Hey, I’m trying. Don’t worry. I’m convincing her.”

Berry re-directs the conversation slightly by saying, “Won’t we be badass? The two of us? Get outta here! You don’t even know what kind of storm we’d create!” Hemsworth chimes in, almost under his breath, contributing, “You don’t even know what things we could even do.” Both actors would giggle to themselves as the interview came to a close.

When answering the question, both actors seemed to be playing things up, but there was a feeling of Hemsworth knowing something he couldn’t reveal while he was trying to navigate the question. Of course, we all know that he’s got a great comedic presence, so you’ll have to see and decide for yourself when the full interview drops soon!

Where Does Marvel Go After Avengers: Secret Wars? https://www.joblo.com/where-does-marvel-go/ https://www.joblo.com/where-does-marvel-go/#respond Thu, 05 Feb 2026 13:20:59 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=884980 What does the MCU go after Avengers: Secret Wars? Is an "out with the old and in with the new" attitude the answer to superhero fatigue?

Steve

Let’s start this think piece with a question: Is the marketing for Avengers: Doomsday getting you excited? Last year, Marvel held an online cast reveal featuring a timed distribution of chairs. Each chair had the name of an actor set to appear in Doomsday, with a new seat unveiled every 10-15 minutes (or so). As someone covering the event for JoBlo, the process was a slog. The wait for each reveal felt like an eternity, and the sweeping camera movements from chair to chair did little to add to the excitement. Speaking with others who are not part of the news-related trenches, they thought the event was fun, something they kept in the background as they went about their day. I envy them, because all the event did was make me question Marvel’s approach to its next pairing of “event” films.

Chairs? Really, Marvel? Chairs?

Things got quiet after the chair showcase, with Marvel keeping a relatively tight lid on any promotional materials. Well, until the teaser trailers started leaking. Unfortunately, it’s the nature of the beast for things to eke out early, given so many people snooping online and wanting to be the first to spoil the surprise. Instead of Marvel revealing the return of Steve Rogers, Thor, and more, random online accounts lifted the curtain, confirming what many already knew. Still, if their goal was to make the teaser campaign as anticlimactic as possible, mission accomplished.

For the life of me, I’ve not been able to get excited about Avengers: Doomsday, or Avengers: Secret Wars, for that matter. I say this as an MCU fan who roots for nearly every release and wants, more than anything, to once again feel that rush of collective enthusiasm that came with the Infinity Saga era. I don’t know that we’ll ever get back to that feeling again, but if not that, can we look forward to something new?

Doctor Doom, Secret Wars

A burst of inspiration

I woke up two days ago, out of the blue, feeling optimistic about the MCU’s future. What changed my mind? I’m still trying to figure that out. While the thought of Marvel getting the band back together for a knock-down, drag-out fight with Doctor Doom intrigues me, I’m more excited about what happens after the smoke clears. Doomsday introduces Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, who in the comics is a close friend of the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards and Susan Storm, and leader of the Kingdom of Latveria. The movie will likely find Doom trying to rule the world with an iron fist, with the Avengers and their super-powered allies assembling to stop his rise. As we’ve seen, the movie brings familiar heroes back to the MCU fold and reintroduces the X-Men, with several players from Fox’s beloved franchise reprising their iconic roles as the Children of the Atom. But what of Secret Wars?

With Secret Wars, Marvel has the potential to shake the MCU up considerably. Secret Wars introduces the concept of incursions. What are those? According to Fandom (and my reading of the Secret Wars event, however many years ago), incursions are “catastrophic events where two parallel universes collide and destroy each other, often leading to the collapse of reality.” I won’t get into too many specifics about how the Avengers solve the 616’s incursion problem for two reasons: We’ve not seen Avengers: Secret Wars yet, and there’s no guarantee the film will follow the same plot as Marvel’s comic book event series. However, the incursion presents Marvel Studios with an opportunity to reset the playing field. If you’re Marvel, how do you leverage that?

Iman Vellani, Kamala Khan, Young Avengers

Where are the Young Avengers?

One way Marvel could capitalize on Avengers: Secret Wars is by establishing new teams and showing confidence in the growth and staying power of post-Infinity Saga characters (Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, etc.). As an example: Whatever happened to Kamala Khan leading a Young Avengers team? Do you remember when Kamala approached Kate Bishop about joining forces in the mid-credits scene from The Marvels? Let’s do that! Marvel has already laid the groundwork for the team, with more than a handful of potential members already introduced. Who could join the team? Kamala would obviously lead the charge, with the light-bending, embiggening hero in a field-ready Nick Fury-like role. Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) could join the team, as well as Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang (a.k.a. Stature), Will Deusner’s Skaar, Joe Locke’s Billy Maximoff from Agatha All Along, Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez, Jack Veal’s Kid Loki, Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart, Elijah Richardson’s Eli Bradley (a.k.a. Patriot), and Indla Rose Hemsworth as Love from Thor: Love & Thunder. That’s just who I can think of off the top of my head. If Marvel would get up off its ass and introduce live-action versions of Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, we’d be in even better shape.

How does Marvel solve for X(-Men)?

Placing the Young Avengers aside, what of the X-Men? Will the MCU opt for an all-or-nothing era of mutant mayhem? Do fans want a series of solo features reintroducing the Children of the Atom, or do you keep making one X-Men team-based movie after another? There are so many mutants in the Marvel Universe. Why limit ourselves to the X-Men? Give us a Strange Academy TV series, and steadily introduce its characters into the films. Remember the I Am Groot shorts on Disney+? Do that again, but instead of Groot, it’s Doop! Don’t look at me like that. You know you want it. For the love of everything holy, reintroduce Magick and the New Mutants. They deserved better! Put Professor Xavier out to pasture and give us Quentin Quire! Okay, maybe that’s an unpopular opinion, but I stand by it.

Strange Academy

It’s time to believe in the new guard

What’s the point I’m trying to make? There is so much potential for the MCU to flourish after Secret Wars. There’s little reason for Marvel to rely on legacy characters to put asses in seats. However, if they want people to show up, audiences need to feel that Marvel Studios believes in its characters as much as we do in wanting to see them succeed. Superhero fatigue is real, but it’s mainly because Marvel appears to have lost confidence in people’s ability to move beyond Steve Rogers, Thor Odinson, and other characters who helped lay the foundation of the MCU. Paying homage to the old guard is excellent, but at some point, we need to move on. Show audiences that you believe in new characters, and they will eventually get on board. Stop second-guessing yourself every time a film doesn’t quadruple its budget, or trolls bomb the comments. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and The Marvels deserved better, dammit!

Anyway, I’m gonna watch some Agatha All Along, ponder the glowing reactions to Wonder Man, and hope that Marvel Studios rediscovers its love for its own characters in a post-Secret Wars world. Let us know what you want from Marvel Studios after Secret Wars in the comments.

December 18 (aka Dunesday) Could Be the Biggest Box Office Showdown Ever

The biggest box office showdown in cinematic history will likely take place on December 18. That’s the day Disney releases its make-or-break MCU epic Avengers: Doomsday, while Warner Bros unleashes Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi juggernaut Dune: Part Three.

While Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet recently had some fun with the clash—branding it “Dunesday”—it’s still highly unusual for tentpoles of this scale to open on the same day. Traditionally, studios avoid this kind of direct collision because, in theory, there can only be one “winner.”

That said, history shows it’s not always a zero-sum game.

When Massive Movies Open on the Same Day, Everyone Can Still Win

I remember being a teenager when Titanic and the James Bond sequel Tomorrow Never Dies opened on the same day. Titanic went on to become the biggest movie of all time, but Tomorrow Never Dies still turned a healthy profit.

More recently, the so-called “Barbenheimer” phenomenon—when Barbie and Oppenheimer debuted simultaneously—proved that competing blockbusters can actually fuel each other’s success. Both films became cultural events and massive box office hits.

Why Dune: Part Three Has a Major Advantage Over Avengers: Doomsday

While most people assume Avengers: Doomsday will inevitably outgross Dune: Part Three, Villeneuve’s sequel has something Disney doesn’t: exclusive access to IMAX screens.

Despite expectations that Doomsday would follow recent MCU entries with a major IMAX rollout, it appears that Dune: Part Three—shot extensively with IMAX cameras—has reportedly secured a three-week IMAX exclusivity window. That’s a significant win for Warner Bros.

IMAX has steadily grown in popularity, and an IMAX release isn’t just about ticket premiums—it adds cultural cachet and reinforces a film’s “must-see” status.

IMAX Formats: How the Two Films Compare

Both movies will still benefit from IMAX branding, but in very different ways:

  • Dune: Part Three is expected to follow its predecessor, with sequences framed for the full IMAX 1.43:1 aspect ratio.
  • Avengers: Doomsday, reportedly shot in a standard 2.39:1 ratio, will likely receive a custom IMAX version that expands to 1.90:1—similar to releases like F1.

While Doomsday will still look impressive in premium formats, Dune’s native IMAX photography gives it a clear edge with cinephiles.

As it stands, both films are still locked into December 18—but I have a hard time believing they’ll ultimately go head-to-head.

Avengers: Doomsday feels firmly planted, with its entire marketing campaign built around that date. If one movie moves, Dune: Part Three seems the more likely candidate. A shift to March 2027—the same window that worked so well for Dune: Part Two—would make a lot of strategic sense.

For now, though, we wait. If the date holds, December 18 aka “Dunesday” could become one of the most fascinating box office experiments Hollywood has ever seen.

Marvel has released four teasers for Avengers: Doomsday with little official fanfare, but they have been an enormous success. According to a THR report, all four Avengers: Doomsday teasers have reached a combined 1.02 billion views.

The Teasers Did Very Well, Even Without Showing Dr. Doom

The first teaser, focusing on Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), played exclusively in theaters in front of Avatar: Fire & Ash, and although pirated versions did crop up, Marvel didn’t officially release it online until five days later. The other three teasers followed a similar release.

Individual numbers for each teaser weren’t revealed, but insiders claim that “the social volume was for each teaser was on average 188 percent greater than for a typical Marvel drop, and the combined four teasers now top the highest views for Marvel trailer launches on Instagram (505 million) and TikTok (103 million) views.

The report adds that Marvel Studios is “particularly pround that the four teasers were so successful without showing Downey, proving that there remains a great and passionate interest in the characters, and their originating actors.

On the Empire podcast, Doomsday co-director Joe Russo teased, “Each one of those trailers is narrative information. And it’s all part of a larger story. And so, I would argue that Doomsday has already started for you.

The Four Avengers: Doomsday Teasers

The first Doomsday teaser focused on Steve Rogers, serving as the first official confirmation that Chris Evans is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The second shifted to Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who is shown praying to his father for the strength to fight one last battle in order to protect his daughter.

The third entry proved to be the most electrifying yet, revealing Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen reprising their iconic roles as Professor X and Magneto, before cutting to a comic-accurate Cyclops (James Marsden) unleashing an optic blast as a Sentinel looms behind him.

The fourth expanded the scope even further, bringing the Wakandans and the Talokans back into the fold while also spotlighting Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) of The Fantastic Four.

The film is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen the release of four (so far) teaser trailers for Avengers: Doomsday, but according to the Russo brothers, those teasers aren’t teasers at all; instead, they’re “stories” and “clues.”

The Russo Brothers on Avengers: Doomsday Teasers

While sharing the latest Doomsday preview on social media, the Russos wrote, “What you’ve been watching for the last four weeks… are not teasers. Or trailers. They are stories. They are clues… Pay attention.” The post closed with a new ominous hashtag: #DoomsdayHasBegun.

So what does that mean exactly? One prevailing theory is that some of the footage was shot specifically for these previews, rather than pulled directly from the film itself. Others believe each installment contains a hidden clue — details that may not fully make sense until Avengers: Doomsday finally hits theaters. What do you think?

The Four Avengers: Doomsday Teasers

The first Doomsday “story” focused on Steve Rogers, serving as the first official confirmation that Chris Evans is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The fourth — released earlier today — expanded the scope even further, bringing the Wakandans and the Talokans back into the fold while also spotlighting Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) of The Fantastic Four.

The Cast of Avengers: Doomsday

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Simi Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy, Lewis Pullman as Bob, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner, Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme, James Marsden as Scott Summers, Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, and Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom. The film is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.

Avengers: Doomsday teasers

We are in the year of Doomsday. Disney has made a unique release strategy for the marketing of the upcoming Avengers film by unveiling a new teaser for each of the first four weeks in the theatrical run of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. The first of such trailers featured a surprise announcement of Steve Rogers’ return. The second showcased a new dramatic angle for Thor. The third revealed a first look at the X-Men‘s involvement in the movie, which featured a money shot of James Marsden’s Cyclops donning the comic-accurate suit and bringing an iconic comic panel to life.

Fourth teaser

The fourth teaser has now been released online since last week’s theatrical reveal. This time, we catch up with both the Wakandans and the natives of Talokan. Shuri holds the dramatic weight in this teaser as she talks about losing her family and upholding her duties. Namor also makes a quick appearance. M’Baku, as the king, is alluded to preparing Wakanda for a new war, and he is seen meeting with a mysterious visitor, which turns out to be Ben Grimm from the recently released Fantastic Four: First Steps. This also showcases out first look at the bevy of crossover characters in this entry.

The Doomsday Cast is Marvel’s Biggest

Following last week’s release of an Avengers: Doomsday teaser featuring select members of the X-Men, Marvel’s legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont is adding to the hype by revealing another cast member he says is destined to show up in the MCU event film. According to Claremont, Famke Janssen will return as Jean Grey in Avengers: Doomsday, despite previous claims that she’s not involved with the production.

Claremont spills the beans again

During an interview on the Power of X-Men podcast, Claremont expresses his excitement for the latest Doomsday teaser, featuring Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Cyclops (James Marsden). While praising the X-Men-filled preview, Claremont let it slip that Janssen is also a part of Doomsday‘s X-Men ensemble.

“The thing I find most wonderful about it is they’re bringing back… the original cast, including Famke,” Claremont said on the podcast.

To be clear, Claremont’s claim is not ironclad. Until I see Janssen in a trailer, on a poster, or confirmed by Disney/Marvel themselves, I’ll take Claremont’s words with a grain of salt. I love the man, but I’ll wait for an official announcement before I take his word as gospel. What’s interesting about Claremont’s statement is that it’s not the first time he’s revealed characters destined to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. In April 2025, Claremont announced that Chris Evans would return, and thanks to a recent trailer, we can confirm that to be true. Additionally, Claremont also stated that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch would return, and that Marvel would also include Psylocke.

Previously, Janssen denied Jean Grey’s return

As for Famke Janssen, the actress has previously denied being a part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, saying the question has “never” and “never ever” come her way since the end of Fox’s X-Men movies. While she could have been telling the truth, it’s also possible that she’s sworn to Marvel secrecy about her character’s revival. There’s also a chance that Marvel/Disney did not contact her about the role until after she gave that statement.

An unpopular take on the X-Men’s return

I’ll be honest, the X-Men coming back for Avengers: Doomsday does very little for me. I know, I know. I’m a monster. I’ve never been a significant fan of Fox’s take on the Children of the Atom, and I’d rather the team be rebooted in a couple of years than do another nostalgia play in Doomsday. I know many people are excited about Fox’s X-Men getting more screen time, and I’m genuinely happy for them, but it’s simply not what I need or want from Doomsday. Again, I know I’m the minority here, but I can’t help it. I want to move on to a new X-Men era, and if that means we need to wait a few more years to see the team again, so be it. Feel free to comment below. You know you want to.

Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. Avengers: Doomsday Finally Delivers an Exciting Teaser

One has to give Disney some credit here — of all the Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers that have been dropping since the holidays, one has finally gotten people excited. We wrote a little earlier about how the re-introduction of Captain America (or at least Steve Rogers) in the first teaser felt like a bit of an anti-climax, and the second one featuring Chris Hemsworth’s return as Thor didn’t really move the needle (the biggest story was that he was sporting short hair this time).

The X-Men Reunion That Got Fans Talking

While the fourth teaser has yet to drop (and apparently features some Black Panther characters), the third teaser — featuring the reunion of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto — got people talking, especially with the teaser ending with a cool reveal of James Marsden in full Cyclops mode. To many, this last reveal was especially significant, as his iteration of the character has notoriously been poorly served by the films.

Are These Farewells Ever Really Final?

Yet, there also seems to be something almost funny about the fact that it’s being teased as one last adventure for the old group, as it feels like we’ve all said goodbye to these characters before. Charles Xavier got a magnificent send-off in Logan, but like that film’s titular character, his retirement from a role he clearly still likes to play was premature. Patrick Stewart really hasn’t aged much in the last thirty or so years and is still more than capable of playing the part, and there’s something genuinely touching about seeing him reunite with Ian McKellen as Magneto in the trailer.

As for Cyclops — let the man have his day.

Which X-Men Are Confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday?

Of course, they aren’t the only X-Men set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Confirmed returns include:

  • Rebecca Romijn as Mystique
  • Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler (his first time playing the role since X2: X-Men United)
  • Kelsey Grammer as Beast (yes!)
  • Channing Tatum as Gambit, who never appeared in a proper X-Men film but memorably played the character in Deadpool vs. Wolverine

What This Means for the Future of the X-Men

There are also plenty of other X-Men who could show up — if not in Doomsday, then almost certainly in Secret Wars — including Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as the X-Men-adjacent Deadpool (who may actually appear in Doomsday as well).

All of this appears to be building toward a full reboot of the X-Men franchise, likely introducing a new cast via the Multiverse. Whether this truly ends up being the original team’s final hurrah remains to be seen.

At any rate, we want to know what you, our readers, think about the X-Men showing up in Avengers: Doomsday. Let us know your thoughts in the comments — we’d love to hear how you think the movie is shaping up.

Doomsday Trailer Three

As reported weeks ago, Avatar: Fire and Ash will have four different teasers attached for Avengers: Doomsday for its first four weeks in theaters. The first teaser eased us in, but made a big announcement with footage of Chris Evans picking up where he left off as Steve Rogers and the trailer ended with the text, “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” The second trailer brought us a look at the state of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and brought back some dramatic context to the character after Love and Thunder emphasized comedy. Last week saw the unveiling of the third trailer, and now, Marvel has officially released it online.

To me, my X-Men

With Avengers: Doomsday being the culmination of the latest phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are many things to look forward to. Specifically, we will see the multiverse play a big role with not only the return of recently established characters like the Fantastic Four, but cast members of past franchises will make a leap into the MCU — and the biggest reveal is the return of Fox’s X-Men. This teaser is brief, but we get to see Professor Xavier’s mansion, along with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen reprising their roles as Professor X and Magneto. Then, the money shot shows off James Marsden making a dramatic appearance as Cyclops in comic-accurate fatigues, much like Hugh Jackman finally adorned in Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Doomsday Cast is Marvel’s Biggest

2025 Was a Rough Year for Hollywood — Can 2026 Turn Things Around?

And so another year is in the books, and 2025 proved to be a rough one for Hollywood. While box office grosses ticked up slightly, they remain well below pre-pandemic norms—levels the industry has never truly recovered.

Several formerly indestructible franchises stumbled. Marvel, in particular, is likely uneasy after the relative underperformance of Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts (though Fantastic Four: First Steps performed reasonably well).

Even DC wasn’t immune. While Superman earned praise, its roughly $600 million global gross would once have been considered merely acceptable for a superhero tentpole—not a triumph.

Is Netflix a Threat to Theatrical Movies?

One of the biggest clouds hanging over the industry is the possibility of Netflix acquiring Warner Bros. If that deal goes through, the streamer’s proposed 17-day theatrical window would be devastating for exhibitors. At a time when theaters are already fighting for relevance, such a move could accelerate the decline of traditional exhibition.

Why 2026 Could Be a Make-or-Break Year

Despite the gloom, 2026 is shaping up to be massive—and potentially decisive for several studios. At the center of it all is Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday.

If that film underperforms, it would represent a seismic blow to what was once the most reliable franchise in Hollywood history. Success, on the other hand, could help stabilize the genre and restore some confidence in big-screen spectacle.

Are There Too Many Sequels and Reboots?

One thing is immediately obvious when looking at the 2026 slate: it’s dominated by sequels and reboots. Original films are few and far between, though there are notable exceptions—most prominently Disclosure Day from Steven Spielberg.

We’ve already posted an extensive horror preview, along with another broader movie preview earlier this week, but the overall trend is clear: studios are leaning heavily on familiar IP as risk aversion continues to define the post-pandemic era.

2025 ended up being a pretty decent year for movies, with some true standouts like Marty Supreme, Weapons, and Hamnet. But with the sun setting on 2025, it’s time to look forward to the films being released in 2026. And boy are there a lot of sequels and adaptations. I suppose that’s just the nature of modern day cinema and that’s not to say that there won’t be some original films that really blow us away this year. But those tend to be a bit more under the radar until closer to release. Even still, I’m pretty excited for many releases this year and think that we should be in store for some great additions to already established franchises. So let’s take a look at some of the upcoming movies in 2026.

And don’t forget to check out our 2026 Horror Preview as well!

wuthering heights

Wuthering Heights (February 13th)

Emerald Fennell has really made quite the impact with films like Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. Now it’s time for her to adapt one of the most famous novels out there with Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. It is “A passionate and tumultuous love story set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors, exploring the intense and destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw.” Pairing Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi seems like the work of some mad genius. The Valentine’s Day release is sure to make this one another win for Fennell.

crime 101

Crime 101 (February 13)

Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry star in this action-thriller based on the work of Don Winslow (writer of Savages). Directed by Bart Layton, whose American Animals was quite the Sundance gem eight years back, this is the kind of adrenaline-charged original fare you don’t get too often in theaters anymore. Here’s the synopsis:

Set against the sun-bleached grit of Los Angeles, CRIME 101 weaves the tale of an elusive thief (Chris Hemsworth) whose high-stakes heists unfolding along the iconic 101 freeway have mystified police. When he eyes the score of a lifetime with hopes of this being his final job, his path collides with a disillusioned insurance broker (Halle Berry) who is facing her own crossroads, forcing the two to collaborate. Determined to crack the case, a relentless detective (Mark Ruffalo) closes in on the operation, raising the stakes even higher. As the multimillion-dollar heist approaches, the line between hunter and hunted begins to blur, and all three are forced to confront the cost of their choices–and the realization that there’s no turning back.

project hail mary

Project Hail Mary (March 20th)

Andy Weir writes some of the most interesting science fiction of the modern era and it’s been far too long since we got an adaptation of one of his other big works, The Martian. The story involves: “Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.” While the trailer gave away a little much for my liking, it’s hard to count against Ryan Gosling in the entertainment department.

disclosure day

Disclosure Day (June 12th)

I’m still not sold on the title, but it’s hard not to be excited at the concept of Steven Spielberg returning to the world of Aliens with this UFO thriller. With a cast that includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Wyatt Russell and Colman Domingo, this look very intriguing. Plot details are still pretty scant but it looks more in line with Close Encounters than War of the Worlds.

Toy Story 5

Toy Story 5 (June 12th)

It’s always interesting to see what new obstacles the filmmakers manage to put in the way of our favorite toys, and the plot for Toy Story 5 seems like a long time coming: “Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they’re introduced to electronics, a new threat to playtime.” With all the main cast returning, plus fun additions like Conan O’Brien, it’ll be nice to see another story within this world. While the third entry provided the perfect ending, the fourth proved that there’s still some juice left in the tank, and I’m excited to see what they do with this one.

supergirl

Supergirl (June 26th, 2026)

The second film in James Gunn’s DCU has some pretty high expectations going in. But if Superman was any indication, we’re in for a much less gloomy version of a Superhero movie. And while we just got a taste of her last year, this origin story should give us a better overall picture of what Supes’ cousin has been up to. Plus, it’s going to be awesome to see Jason Momoa’s Lobo chomp on a cigar in a role that he was born to play.

the odyssey

The Odyssey (July 17th)

I’m not sure if there’s any other film releasing that has the level of hype of this film. With opening day showings already being sold out for the last 6 months, there’s nothing quite like a Christopher Nolan movie. For those that never had to read the book in school, The Odyssey “After the Trojan War, Odysseus faces a dangerous voyage back to Ithaca, meeting creatures like the Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens, and Circe along the way.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31st)

There’s a certain excitement to any new Spider-man moving coming out and, thankfully, we’ve never been too many years without one. With Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton taking over behind the camera, it’ll be interesting to see what he brings to the table. Even more exciting is that this should be putting Spidey more street level and allow us to see him less MCU-afied. Though, it’s hard to say since this will also be featuring a tons of other characters like Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Sadie Sink’s mystery character. Here’s hoping they allow the character to be a bit more independent and less reliant on what’s going on with the rest of the MCU.

the social reckoning

The Social Reckoning (October 9th)

I would have never expected there to be a sequel to David Fincher’s The Social Network yet here we are. And honestly? I’m actually pretty intrigued. A lot has happened in the world of Mark Zuckerberg since the creation of Facebook and it will be interesting to see how writer Aaron Sorkin (who is now taking over directing duties) presents the story which follows “Frances Haugen, a young Facebook engineer, who enlisted the help of Jeff Horwitz, a Wall Street Journal reporter, to blow the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise of the Reaping (November 20th)

I’ve been pretty let down by many of the films in the Hunger Game series so when I tell you this one has me excited, just know that I’m a hard sell for these. But having read the book that this one is based, this is easily the best story yet and I can’t wait to see some of these scenes come to life. The casting has been perfect and it’ll be great to see Haymitch’s time in the games. Plus, it’s cool that they were able to get Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson back, even if it’s likely just a bookends role, where Harrelson’s Haymitch is likely telling them his story. Either way Sunrise of the Reaping “Explores Panem 24 years before Katniss’ saga, starting on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, where a young Haymitch Abernathy participates.

Avengers Doomsday (December 18th)

It seems like just about everyone who’s ever put on a supersuit is returning for Doomsday, not to mention Robert Downey Jr, whose Tony Stark famously died in the last Avengers teamup. Whether it’s Marvel calling a hail mary and trying to save the MCU is irrelevant if they’re able to pull off a massive spectacle that brings in the money. And they’re doing a great job of building that hype already as there have already been multiple teaser trailers (four revealing different characters returning). The story appears to feature Doctor Doom going after the children of famous superheroes, causing them to all band together to try and take him out. We’ve even got the OG X-Men returning.

Dune 4, Denis Villeneuve

Dune Part Three (December 18th)

Part of me thinks that Dune is going to move at some point to avoid Doomsday. I just can’t imagine it competing with a behemoth like an Avengers film, but I guess crazier things have been done. We’re still following Timothy Chalamet’s Paul Atreides but given how crazy the source material gets, I’ll be curious to see how it translates to a movie, as it’s always felt pretty unadaptable. Though, if anyone can do it, I’m sure Denis Villeneuve is up to the task.

Teaser Trailer Two

Marvel is releasing four teasers with Avatar: Fire and Ash for the first four weeks of its run. When the first teaser was unveiled to be a character tease for Steve Rogers’ return to the fight, it was clear how each of the teasers would highlight an aspect of the film. The next one is officially released online by Marvel and features Thor in a prayer to his father, Odin. Stakes for Thor have been raised now that he’s a father (which may be a theme for our OGs since the Rogers trailer showed him with his own child). Thor’s prayer has him calling for strength for one last fight. This presents more emotional weight since Hemsworth is seemingly aiming to hang up the hammer after this entry.

Avengers: Doomsday Will Be Massive

There’s still a lot of pressure on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to give fans an experience on par (or greater) than the one-two punch of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but the cast have certainly been singing its praises. The first teaser attached to Avatar

Disney announced a couple of weeks ago that they were implementing an interesting-sounding strategy for Avatar: Fire and Ash. The studio announced that not only would they feature a teaser for the upcoming event film, Avengers: Doomsday, but they would attach four teasers to the James Cameron movie. Doomsday is poised to be a big film for the Marvel Universe, so it stood to reason that they would start promotion in an epic way, but this strategy seemed like overkill. Then, the first teaser for the first week was released, and suddenly, it made sense. Each teaser is likely to be very short and announce the appearance of a character in the upcoming film.

The Return of a Hero

For those who have seen Avatar: Fire and Ash this past week, they have also seen the teaser (or you may have come across a leak online), but you can now view it for yourself, as it’s officially been released. The first one shows Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, just as we left him in Endgame. The text at the end simply stated “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” So, what’s the consensus on it? It feels almost as emotionally confusing as when Robert Downey Jr. was announced to return as Doctor Doom. Sure, it’s nice to see them, but does it feel like desperation on Marvel’s part? After ten years with these characters and their arcs seemingly coming to an end with Endgame, is bringing them back taking the impact of their conclusion away? Just as Toy Story 4 and the upcoming Toy Story 5 lessen the emotional goodbye of Toy Story 3?

Response?

What is the response from the audience? From you all. As many of you know, social media and thread comments are tough to gauge with bots and trolls just making blanket or incendiary statements. I’m sure there are many, many, many Marvel fans who are excited to see the OG Captain America make his return. But there are also likely a lot of people who think this isn’t quite a good development. Marvel is known for fan service and surprises. Now that the universe has been long established and is massive, almost every new entry has people wondering, “Who might show up in this one? Who are they gonna tease?”

With the recent reception of the MCU’s quality, the reveal of Steve Rogers’ return is on a slippery slope and feels like a crutch. If the last couple of phases of the Marvel films were strong enough, would they feel the need to pull Evans back into the fray? Or has this been the plan all along? As ridiculous as the Fast & Furious movies have been, sloppily bringing back dead characters from past movies has shown to cheapen any kind of dramatic moment they once had and has totally eliminated any stakes since they can just come back later.

I know characters come back all the time in the comics and it’s too early to tell how the Russos are weaving Rogers’ return into the new film. Doomsday is supposed to be crazy multiverse action, so perhaps his return is truly warranted. I am excited to see Evans again, but I hope the movie sticks the landing.

The post What’s going on with the Marvel trailer leaks? appeared first on JoBlo.

The first of four teaser trailers for Avengers: Doomsday is now playing exclusively in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash, but it didn’t stay secret for long. Earlier this week, the teaser leaked online (spoiling a returning character in the process), followed by audio from the second teaser and even the full trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Marvel is famously protective of its secrets (Tom Holland aside), so the sudden flood of trailer leaks raises an obvious question: what’s going on behind the scenes?

How the Spider-Man: Brand New Day Teaser Might Have Leaked

THR’s Heat Vision newsletter explored one theory for why these leaks have occurred, at least in the case of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. They explain that “it escaped from a service studios use to get early feedback on trailers from average moviegoers, who sign NDAs in exchange for looking at stuff early… The Brand New Day trailer is played on a computer screen that could be logged into such a site, but it’s unclear.

There have been rumours that the Brand New Day teaser trailer is scheduled to air with Anaconda on Christmas Day or during the Super Bowl in February, but no confirmation has been made.

What We Know About Brand New Day

Production recently wrapped on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has been directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Tom Holland has naturally returned as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Jon Bernthal joins him as Frank Castle/Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, and Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone. Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman appear in unspecified roles. Sadie Sink is also playing a character whose identity has been shrouded in mystery, and we may see more of her, as reports suggest she has joined the cast of Avengers: Secret Wars.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026, followed by Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026.

SPOILERS: Who’s returning for Avengers: Doomsday?

The first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday has revealed that Steve Rogers, the hero wrapped in stars and stripes played by Chris Evans, will return in the next larger-than-life Marvel adventure, set to release on December 18, 2026. But wait! There’s more! Not only is Cap returning, but he’s also the father of a newborn child! I’m guessing Cap finally found his dance partner, eh?

What does the Avengers: Doomsday teaser show us?

The Cap-focused teaser is one of several promos linked to Avengers: Doomsday, with each one focusing on other characters in the coming weeks. In the teaser, set on a tranquil farm, we find Steve riding a motorcycle up to his quiet home as a piano rendition of the “Avengers” theme plays in the background. After taking off his blue helmet and looking at it reflectively, we see that he’s holding a newborn baby. After looking proudly at the little bundle of joy, the teaser ends with “Steve Rogers will return for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.'”

We’ve got questions!

The new Avengers: Doomsday teaser elicits a few questions. Is Steve Rogers rejoining the Avengers as Captain America? Is he retired? Is this the same Steve Rogers who helped defeat Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, or is this character from an alternate timeline? Additionally, who’s the mother of Steve’s child? Peggy Carter? Sharon Carter? Someone else?

Chris Evans is one of several MCU superstars returning for Avengers: Doomsday, including Robert Downey Jr. However, Downey won’t return as Iron Man, also known as Tony Stark. Instead, he’ll play Victor Von Doom, the classic Fantastic Four villain and ruler of Latveria. How Downey steps into the villainous role remains unclear, but we’re excited to find out.

What do you think about Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday? Do you think it’s the same Steve Rogers as before? Who do you think Cap got “patriotic” with to produce a child? Let us know in the comments section below.

The first teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is expected to debut with the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, but Disney has something unique in mind. According to THR’s Heat Vision newsletter, fans will see not one, but four different Avengers: Doomsday trailers. The outlet says the first trailer will play for one week, before switching to the next and so on. So if you want to see all four, you’ll have to see Avatar: Fire and Ash multiple times. I’m reminded of the crowds of people who bought tickets for Meet Joe Black simply to see the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

Since Disney clearly wants fans experiencing these in theaters, it’s unclear whether all four Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers will ultimately be released online — at least in any official capacity.

Avengers: Doomsday Will Be Massive

There’s still a lot of pressure on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to give fans an experience on par (or greater) than Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but the cast have certainly been singing its praises. Channing Tatum has claimed that fans are “just not ready” for their “brains to ooze out their ears.“ Challenge accepted.

The Doomsday Cast is Marvel’s Biggest

Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released on December 19. Will you be watching it multiple times to catch all the Avengers: Doomsday trailers?

Before Avengers: Doomsday touches down in theaters on December 18, 2026, Disney will fire up the hype machine by re-releasing Avengers: Endgame, the second-highest-grossing film ever, in theaters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Avengers: Endgame returns to cinemas on September 25, 2026, although the duration of its run is unknown.

Why Disney/Marvel is re-releasing Endgame again in 2026

It’s easy to understand why Disney and Marvel would want to re-release Avengers: Endgame ahead of Doomsday, as the Russo brothers direct Endgame, which features a powerhouse performance by Robert Downey Jr. The trio returns to the Marvel Universe for Doomsday, though Downey is playing the classic villain Victor Von Doom in Doomsday. Slapping Endgame on the big screen again will remind audiences of the trio’s creative prowess and chemistry, adding fuel to the fire for an event film featuring characters from Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and X-Men franchises.

Endgame is now the second-highest-grossing film of all time domestically with $858 million, behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which grossed $937 million. Additionally, it is the second-highest-grossing U.S. film of all time internationally with $1.941 billion, behind only Avatar’s $2.138 billion.

What was it like to see Avengers: Endgame the fist time around?

Avengers: Endgame is the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, a two-part event that remains one of the most significant cultural touchstones in cinema of the past several decades. Everything the Marvel Cinematic Universe had built to that point mattered more than ever as Thanos threatened to unmake reality as we know it. Endgame not only picked up the Infinity War ball and ran with it, but it spiked that sucker into the ground while audiences let out a deafening roar of excitement. I can still recall the fever pitch of anticipation the night I went to see Avengers: Endgame. The crowd was positively buzzing during the final battle, and I had trouble hearing the movie during that scene where all the portals open up. While I’m not sure that a re-release of Endgame can recapture that magic, it’s a fantastic opportunity for those who missed the movie in theaters the first time around, or want to take another ride on one of Marvel Studios‘ most incredible and most exhilarating cinematic roller coasters.

While Sadie Sink is closing the chapter on her Stranger Things days this year, she’ll still be right in the nerd culture trenches with her entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sink joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and was recently reported to be added to the production of Avengers: Doomsday. Interestingly, who she will be playing in these films has yet to be announced, and speculation has naturally started based on her look. Could she be Jean Grey? Names like Mayday Parker, Gwen Stacy and Madelyne Pryor have also been thrown around.

According to Deadline, Sink would tease a possible change to her look to throw anticipating fans off the scent of her character’s identity. She told Entertainment Weekly,

A lot of people forget that hair color can change, but yeah, I understand all of the theories. People will just have to wait and see. I’m excited for all of it to maybe be put to rest.”

When asked if she might be playing Jean Grey, Sink responded, “That was happening before I even knew that I would be working on this project. I was like, ‘Wait! What are people talking about?’”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still shooting, with the production slated to wrap up in the middle of December. Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is directing from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Holland has naturally returned as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and he’s joined by Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, and Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone. Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman appear in unspecified roles.

The film is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and will be followed by Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.

A leaked image, purportedly from the set of Marvel‘s Avengers: Doomsday, is circulating. The surprisingly uniform photo features several X-Men cast members in full costume mugging for the camera, and it’s all a little too perfect to be real. At least that’s what we think. Realistically, the image utilizes AI to achieve its pristine presentation; otherwise, this is the type of photo that would typically appear in an official capacity, such as in an issue of Entertainment Weekly or Variety.

The image in question (from left to right) features James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Teyonah Paris as Monica Rambeau, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, and Ian McKellen as Magneto. Everyone is decked out in their X-Men finery, though, as many people are pointing out, the image is a little too perfect to be real. Plus, to my knowledge, Monica Rambeau is not a member of the X-Men, nor is Paris confirmed to be part of the Doomsday cast.

X-Men, Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel

An interesting aspect of today’s story is that, not too long ago, this image would have been accepted as gospel to many. However, AI has taken over the internet in such alarming and obnoxious ways that fewer people are willing to believe what they see online. In all likelihood, this Doomsday image is simply stirring the pot, and we can write it off as a taste of things to come.

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Simi Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy, Lewis Pullman as Bob, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner, Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme, James Marsden as Scott Summers, Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, and Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom. If there’s anyone ready to get back to the MCU with bells on, it’s Simu Liu! It’s been several years since we saw Liu in the flesh as Shang-Chi for 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and fans of the character are overjoyed to hear he’s returning for Marvel’s next event film, Avengers: Doomsday.

“It was really awesome, exciting,” Liu told Variety during a press tour for Netflix‘s latest animated film, In Your Dreams. “So many actors that I grew up watching, and to get to kind of play in that sandbox with them… it’s a dream come true. I grew up watching superhero movies and wanting to believe that the outcasts and the nerds and the weirdos could find it in themselves to have superpowers and save the day. That’s what 12-year-old me clung on to. I still believe, for better or for worse, in the power of what those movies stand for today.”

Lately, not everyone shares Liu’s opinion about the state of superhero filmmaking, with some arguing that “superhero fatigue” is a real phenomenon and that the MCU has lost its way. Liu isn’t trying to hear any of that guff, even if it’s just an opinion of the vocal minority. When asked what he thinks about people who say the superhero genre has nothing left to offer fans, Liu clapped back by saying, “It’s kind of fashionable now to hate on it,” he says. “I think there are valid critiques of the way that movies are made, the way that production budgets are handled, I think that there are a lot of valid things to say, but this idea of shitting on superhero movies as a genre, I don’t know. I don’t know I because I am speaking as somebody who just absolutely loved watching them as a kid.”

I’m with Simu on this one, folks. There are aspects of superhero filmmaking to criticize, sure, but the entire genre? Nah. I don’t know that we’ll ever get back to that pre-Endgame high, but the comic world is so vast that there’s never a shortage of material to inspire new stories and ideas. What do you think? I’ve always been such a fan of Famke Janssen, going back to when she established one of the greatest Bond Girls/Femme Fatales as Xenia Onatopp in Goldeneye. Then she became the definitive Jean Grey for many of us in the X-Men Franchise. And I absolutely loved her in the severely underrated Boy Kills World a few years ago. Now, she’s starring in the Netflix series, Amsterdam Empire, where she finally gets to make something in both her native language and her hometown.

I was fortunate to talk to Famke about Amsterdam Empire as well as some of her memorable roles over the years. We get into what it was like for her to be a producer on her new Netflix show, as well as contribute to the costume design. She also addresses the rumors about her potential appearance in an upcoming Avengers movie. Though, those hoping for a return may need to damper those expectations. This was a great talk, and you can check it out in the embedded video above.

Amsterdam Empire plot: Jack van Doorn, the rich and notorious founder of the coffee shop empire Jackal, has had to fight his entire career against criminals, competitors, and absurd Dutch laws to become the biggest of them all. When his affair with a well-known journalist comes to light, it turns out that his most dangerous enemy has been living under his roof all this time: his betrayed wife, Betty (Famke Janssen), an ex-pop diva who knows all his weak spots and secrets and will not rest until she has taken everything from him.

Amsterdam Empire is Now Streaming On Netflix.

Can we bring the hype down on Avengers: Doomsday? Like, just a little bit? Every quote from the sprawling ensemble cast seems to scream how it’s going to be the biggest, most fantastic thing we’ll ever see. Can anything live up to that? The latest Avengers: Doomsday actor to chime in is Simu Liu, who will be reprising the role of Shang-Chi.

While speaking with ScreenRant, Liu was asked to describe the upcoming Marvel epic in just three words. “Yeah, three: dream come true,” he said.

He continued, “I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them. It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.

I will admit, there is something special about seeing so many Marvel heroes unite in one project, but Doomsday will need more than that to succeed. It’s no secret that Marvel has been struggling to recapture its former glory. Recent projects like Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps have been seen as a step in the right direction, but there’s still a lot of pressure on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to give fans an experience on par (or greater) than Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Will Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man sling his way into Doomsday? https://www.joblo.com/andrew-garfield-on-spider-man-return/ https://www.joblo.com/andrew-garfield-on-spider-man-return/#respond Sat, 11 Oct 2025 14:38:13 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=866475 Andrew Garfield may be down to return as Spider-Man at some point, but he insists it won't be for Avengers: Doomsday.

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday is going to be massive, we know this. And even though principal photography has wrapped and so set leaks will be few and far, there seems like little chance that we know everybody who is in it. And while Marvel likes to try to keep the lid shut tight, sometimes we have to take actors for their word when they say they have no involvement. Take Andrew Garfield, for instance, who says our senses shouldn’t be tingling as far as expecting to see his Spider-Man in Doomsday.

Andrew Garfield recently sat down with GQ for a session where he replied to reader questions across various platforms. While Garfield bounced around YouTube, Reddit and even Quora, it was on X that he found one specifically related to Spider-Man. The question read: “Will Tobey and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man be in Avengers Doomsday aswell?” Garfield’s response: “No. Unequivocally, f*cking no.”

Garfield has been open about wanting to reprise Spider-Man in a more substantial way than he did in No Way Home, saying, “I think it would have to be very weird. I would want to do something very strange. I would want to do something very unique and offbeat and surprising.” So is Doomsday “weird” enough? Not likely. Now, is Secret Wars? That seems to have far more potential and seems like the perfect opportunity for Marvel to bring in just about every character they possibly can, especially since it’s poised to be the studio’s biggest movie ever (it will also be the 40th in the MCU). Doomsday has plenty established already but also has a lot of work to do in terms of plot, whereas Secret Wars will have the foundation firmly in place and have more time to throw everything – and everybody – at the screen.

One of the other questions he found online asked, “Who would win in a fight between Tobey’s Spider-Man, Andrew’s Spider-Man and Tom’s Spider-Man?” Garfield responded, simply, “We wouldn’t fight. We’re friends.” Not big on the hypotheticals, eh, Andrew? Hey, feel free to respond to that one in our comments section!

Production on Avengers: Doomsday wrapped last month, but we still have well over a year until the highly anticipated Marvel epic hits theaters. However, according to scooper Daniel Richtman, the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday could be arriving much sooner than expected. Take this with a grain of salt for now (although Richtman has a good track record), but a “first look” at the film will apparently be attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash, which hits theaters on December 19.

If true, I would imagine the first look would be something relatively brief, with perhaps a teasing glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Just enough to give fans a little taste.

Although production on Doomsday has wrapped, a “healthy dose of additional photography” is expected to follow. It’s no secret that Marvel has been struggling to recapture its former glory. Recent projects like Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps have been seen as a promising return to form, but there’s still a lot of pressure on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to give fans an experience on par (or greater) than Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The cast have certainly been singing its praises (of course, what else are they going to say), with Channing Tatum recently claiming that fans are “just not ready” for their “brains to ooze out their ears.

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, Simi Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy, Lewis Pullman as Bob, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner, Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme, James Marsden as Scott Summers, Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, and Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom. If the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is released with Avatar: Fire and Ash, what do you hope to see in it?

Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be massive. The Russo brothers have returned to direct, and they’ve gathered an all-star roster of characters from across the MCU, and even other universes, for a showdown that will bring the Multiverse Saga to its (hopefully) epic conclusion. One member of the ensemble is Channing Tatum, who reprises the role of Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine, and he’s teased that we’re just not ready for Avengers: Doomsday. In fact, he added that our brains might even ooze out of our ears! Might need to go to the hospital for that one.

[Marvel] set a bar for themselves every movie and they beat it every single movie,” Tatum told Entertainment Tonight. “As I was reading it, I was like, ‘No, how are they going to do this?!’ Like, I don’t understand how they’re gonna do this. You’re just not ready. I don’t know how to describe it to you. It’s gonna make your brains ooze out of your ears, like in the way that I knew when Blade walks on screen in Deadpool & Wolverine… it’s that, times like 50.

Tatum naturally couldn’t spill much about the story, merely repeating, “You’re just not ready.

Although there have certainly been highlights to the Multiverse Saga, the franchise just hasn’t been able to hit the same storytelling heights found in the Infinity Saga. Recent projects like Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps have seen Marvel starting to right the ship, but there’s still a lot of pressure on Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to bring the Saga to a satisfying close. Will they be able to do it? Unlike Shane Black, who believes that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will save comic book movies, I’m not convinced. I’m sure it will be suitably epic and feature everything but the kitchen sink, but I want to… feel something again. Give me something to care about beyond cameos from legacy Marvel stars.

Tatum will next be seen starring in Derek Cianfrance’s Roofman, which recently debuted at TIFF. The official synopsis reads, “Based on an unbelievable true story, Roofman follows Jeffrey Manchester (Tatum), a former Army Ranger and struggling father who turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname: Roofman. After escaping prison, he secretly lives inside a Toys “R” Us for six months, surviving undetected while planning his next move. But when he falls for Leigh (Kirsten Dunst), a divorced mom drawn to his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past closes in.” The film will hit theaters on October 10. As much as audiences loved Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, they weren’t sure what to think when it was announced that the actor would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. However, Iron Man 3 director Shane Black believes Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will “singlehandedly reinvigorate the entire comic book movie industry.” Goodness.

I mean, it seemed like at first a cynical idea, you know, ‘Oh, let’s just go back to the well of the one guy that seems to always save us.’ But it’s going to work,” Black told ComicBook.com. “It’s really going to work. And he’s brought to it… I’m not at liberty to say anything, not that I know. I’m thrilled because I’m first in line to see that. I haven’t seen all the Marvel movies. I’ll see that one first.

Earlier this year, Avengers: Doomsday co-director Joe Russo said Downey Jr. has a “very intense process [of] developing the character. He’s so immersed in it. He is so dialed in. That’s the kind of artist he is. That’s the kind of actor he is.” The director added that the actor has been “writing backstory, costume ideas… I think he just loves really rich three-dimensional characters, and I think he sees a real opportunity here with that character.

Comic book movies are no longer the guaranteed billion-dollar juggernauts they once were. But if anyone can bring Marvel fans back to the theater, I’d place my bet on Robert Downey Jr. Of course, it helps that he’ll be joined by one of the largest ensemble casts of the entire franchise.
